Valley River Rally 2021
Saturday | May 1st | 03:00 PM (EDT)
Hardley Creek Park
Join us on May 1 for the 2021 Valley River Rally!
Bring your kayak/canoe/paddleboard as well as friends and family to float together along a gentle stretch of the Chattahoochee River. The three-mile paddle kicks off at 3:00 p.m. (EST) from Hardley Creek Park and will finish at the Downtown River Park in the City of West Point.
Out of an abundance of caution for the COVID-19 pandemic, CRK will forgo the usual post-paddle festivities this year. Public health measures will be in place to ensure the safety of all attendees, including requiring socially distant seating on the shuttle bus for paddlers.
The $25 registration includes shuttle service (bus or bike!), coupons for local restaurants and breweries, a CRK drybag and a one-year CRK membership.
Pre-Paddle Shuttle: This year, we’re offering two shuttle options prior to the start of the paddle: 1) ride the shuttle bus (one person per row, masks required), or 2) feel the breeze as you ride your bike with other fellow paddlers from the Downtown River Park back to the boat put-in at Hardley Creek Park (3.5 miles). Bikes will be securely stored in a trailer and returned to the take-out point so they’re waiting when you finish the paddle.
For kayak and paddleboard rentals, contact GLL Outdoors (www.gllmarine.com) at 706-645-3584 or [email protected]gllmarine.com. Paddlers must provide their own boat. Inflatable boats are not allowed.
The event is rain or shine! However, the paddle will be postponed if there is a threat of severe thunderstorms/lightening OR if the river is running high due to rain or a release from West Point Dam. And because we depend on proceeds from this event to support our important water protection programs all year long, paddle registration fees are non-refundable.
Physical Requirements: All participants must be able to swim efficiently. All participants must be able to get in and out of a kayak easily (i.e. those with knee or back injuries may have difficulty). Paddling uses your core muscles, arms and shoulders. Anyone with injuries in these areas may have difficulty. Please consult your physician if you are concerned about participating.
Age Requirements: If paddling solo, paddler must be at least 15 years old. If paddling tandem, youth must be at least 10 years old and accompanied by an adult at least 21 years old.
