The Yulin Dog Meat Festival beings on June 21st. Chinese folklore says that eating dog meat on the summer solstice will keep them cooler during the hot summer months. For the poor dogs that survive the trip it to Yulin, their slaughter might be a relief after hours and hours of being stuffed in hot overcrowded trucks with no food and water.  Unfortunately, the dogs that arrive alive get brutally tortured. The Chinese foolishly believe the adrenaline produced makes their meat more tender.
