Dear Friends and Allies, My name is Devin Ibanez (@thatgayrugger) and I have partnered with artist Richard Lopez (@thebrujologist) to bring attention to the discriminatory policies and laws that have been enacted against our trans youth. With your help, we stand in support of the Transgender Law Center (TLC) and their mission to provide legal aid to those in need.It seems that with increased visibility of the trans community, lawmakers have made it their mission to oppress and restrict the rights of trans individuals. Currently, over 100 pieces of Anti Trans legislation have been introduced across more than 30 states in the USA in the past year. Multiple states have already passed legislation which criminalizes providing gender affirming care to anyone 19 years and younger. This will put not only trans youth at risk, but also the parents who support them as well as medical professionals who provide essential services. Other states have voted to exclude young trans women from school sports entirely and subject children to harmful and invasive genital examinations. The depth of the potential harm of bills being pushed in various states is impossible to quantify. This is an attack on young trans women specifically, but also all young women by potentially subjecting them to the policing of their bodies based on others perceptions. Trans trailblazers have been central to the country’s battles for justice, from racial equality to anti-fascism. We choose to stand with trans individuals in our shared fight for equality and civil rights. We can no longer sit idly on the sidelines. Since I came out as the first openly gay Major League Rugby player, I have turned my focus towards advocating for LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion in sports. Sadly, there are already many barriers that discourage queer youth, and trans youth specifically, from participating in athletics. These discriminatory laws and rhetoric across the country has made it even less accessible to the community and will have harmful long-term consequences on the mental health of trans youth. I am hoping that this fundraiser will inspire and provide resources to fight for trans rights and show how much love and support there is from the rest of the LGBTQ+ community as well my fellow rugby players and athletes. While the rugby community has a long way to go to making our sport a fully inclusive space for all, we have the chance to stand up for what is right and show that we will stand with all members of our community. To everyone who has supported me since I came out, please show up at this critical time for the trans community by donating and sharing this fundraiser! I have collaborated with Richard Wilde Lopez, a queer latino artist living in Philadelphia, to create an art piece that represents strength and resilience within the trans community and their allies. Richard believes art is one of the most powerful ways of shaping social consciousness and seeks to use his art to lift the voices of those, who far too often are silenced, particularly the Queer and BIPOC communities. He has created this piece as a thank you gift to our donors. All donations $50 and above will be sent a 8 X 10 print of this piece (Within the USA only). We are choosing to support the Transgender Law Center because they are the largest national trans-specific, trans-led organization changing law, policy, and attitudes. The work they are doing is critical to the fight against Anti Trans legislation and rhetoric in the USA and they need your help! Please help us provide the financial boost the TLC desperately needs to continue its fight as they continue to change law, policy, and attitudes. We hope you'll consider giving an amount that's meaningful to you to help us reach our goal!! Learn more at TransgenderLawCenter.org

Dear Friends and Allies, We are Devin Ibañez (@Thatgayrugger) and Richard Lopez (@thebrujologist) and we have partnered with each other to bring attention to the discriminatory policies and laws that have been enacted against our trans youth. We choose to stand with trans individuals in our shared fight for equality and civil rights. We can no longer sit idly on the sidelines. Devin and Richard have pledged to raise $5,000 in support of the crucial work done at The Transgender Law center. By supporting an organization that has made it their mission to combat these policies and provide direct assistance to those within the Trans community we can make a difference. As a gesture of appreciation to those who donate to our cause, anyone who donates over $50.00 toward our campaign will receive an original art piece designed by Richard Wilde Lopez. This gift is my way of thanking you for your love and support toward this cause. The imagery is that of a rugby team uplifting one another, proudly displaying the colors of the trans flag. Together we can reach our goal and your donations show support toward a community that has been historically at the center of the fight for our equal rights within the LGBTQ community.
