The Zarkon family sends their gratitude: "We wholeheartedly thank you for the assistance in helping us purchase our HK-100 knee pain relief device. Best Regards, Zarkon family" The Fellowship Hotline received a request from Aaron Zarkon for a device to relieve his chronic knee pain. Aaron Zarkon is a 79-year-old man, living with his wife in a small public-housing apartment. They have little in the way of social security benefits, which they use to pay rent each month, as well as their other life necessities. According to Aaron's doctor, he needs a Hercules HK-100 device to relieve knee pain due to degenerative changes. The Hercules HK-100 is a thermal energy device that penetrates deep into the knee with thermal radiation from the device's halogen bulb and infrared light. It helps to relieve pain in the muscles surrounding the knee. Aaron's medical options are either to undergo an operation with a success rate of only 50%, or to purchase this device. Aaron's HMO covers part of the device, but he needs assistance covering the other part. The Fellowship Hotline received a request for assistance with the balance of $317. Your donation will help provide Aaron with the assistance he needs. *** The Fellowship Crisis Hotline provides support and hope for suffering Israelis, like Aaron, with nowhere else to turn, but we do not have enough resources to answer the thousands of calls for help we receive each week. Stella is a 35 year-old single-mother of two living in public housing. The father pays no child support, and she and her children live on $1,800 a month. She suffers from borderline personality disorder as well as fibromyalgia which causes chronic pain and knee problems. She is unable to walk on her own for more than four minutes, requiring a motorized scooter to get around. There is no extra room in her budget. So when her scooter’s battery broke down, Stella found herself unable to pay the $570 to replace it. Unable to leave her home, she first turned to Israel’s Dept. of Social Services which was only able to cover half the amount needed. And that’s when she turned to us. The Fellowship Hotline received a request from Breina Agusta for assistance with dental treatments. Breina is the 68-year-old mother of four grown children. She had a stroke in 2001, and since then has endured several operations and remains wheelchair-bound. Breina and her husband's monthly income consists of social security and disability benefits in the amount of $2,250. Each month they must pay $1,550 to a caretaker who takes care of Breina as well as $350 for the mortgage on the apartment they purchased from public housing. This leaves them with only $350 a month for the rest of their needs. Breina needs dental care. She went to the Dept. of Welfare in Israel for assistance, but they only approved $150. Breina was able to start some treatments and at this stage they have pulled out certain teeth. She can't eat regular food because of her situation and she's unable to pay for and continue the treatments. She suffers from mental health issues, has been treated for OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), and is unable to work because of her emotional problems and the medications she must take to deal with them. Elia's 10 year-old son is in special education following two surgeries to treat abnormal blood vessels in his brain. He is still under observation because other irregularities remain. Elia's 15 year-old daughter suffers from ADHD. MAYA

The Fellowship Hotline receives requests from struggling Jews like Maya for assistance with basic necessities including urgent repairs needed to their homes that cost more than they can afford. Maya is a 66 year-old woman. The only child of Holocaust survivors, she never married, and has no children or relatives. Maya is also 75% disabled, 100% incapacitated, and subsists on a monthly disability pension of only $740. Because of all these difficulties, Maya is unable to purchase basic necessities. Most of her income is spent on medicine, medical treatments, and monthly expenses. She has no savings whatsoever. Maya turned to the Fellowship Hotline for assistance with necessary repairs in her apartment. The simple apartment needs serious renovations, but Maya only requested help with basic repairs. These include repairing a leak in the water pipe behind the bathroom wall and repairs to the ceilings in the kitchen, living room, and bedroom. The situation has left Maya feeling miserable. Because she suffers from various medical problems which include lung disease, the dampness in her apartment exacerbates her illnesses. And while speaking with the Fellowship Hotline, Maya also expressed fear that her downstairs neighbor would physically harm her if the leak ran from her apartment into his. Maya first went to the Department of Welfare for assistance with these repairs, but they were unable to help. So Maya turned to The Fellowship Hotline with a request of $453 for the home repairs. *** The Fellowship Crisis Hotline provides support and hope for suffering Israelis with nowhere else to turn, but we do not have enough resources to answer the thousands of calls for help we receive each week.
