The unexpected bills related to the failure of the Motherhouse's gas heating system are staggering, totally some $150,000 to make critical repairs to the gas pipes and use electric heat in the meantime. (Introducing temporary electric heat has meant the installation of electric hot water heaters, HVAC units, an industrial electric oven, clothing dryers and more.) We already have raised more than $17,000 in this "birthday fundraising campaign." THANK YOU to all those who have already given generously! Just a little more background on our Motherhouse on West 59th Street in New York City: The Motherhouse is the home of 26 Paulist Fathers, including our presidential board; the pastor and associate pastors of the Church of St. Paul the Apostle; multiple mission preachers; many senior Paulists (the oldest of whom is 96!); and five Oblate Sisters of Jesus the Priest, an order of women religious who pray for vocations and assist priests and seminarians.The Motherhouse also is the headquarters of our media ministry Busted Halo; our Vocations Office; our Office of Mission Advancement; and Openings, our ministry to visual artists.
