Paul Seidensticker We are raising awareness and funds for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in loving memory of Edgar “Paul” Seidensticker who passed away December 2, 2012. He was 68 years old. This amazing husband, father, and opa was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2010. Paul lived his life to the fullest, determined to enjoy every minute he had by continuing his favorite activities of hunting, fishing, playing golf, and traveling with his wife, Pat. Three weeks before his death, Paul acquired a severe case of pneumonia that ultimately stole his last breath from him. He showed amazing strength and courage up until the very end. A once vibrant and healthy man taken too soon. We do this in honor of him. We hope that through your donations research can be done so that a cure can be found for this terrible disease. We are raising awareness and funds for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Helen Sydney Klostermann Helen Sydney “Syd” Klostermann passed away on May 10, 2019. Sydney was born July 15, 1941 in St. Louis to Harry and Helen Gleditsch. She had one sibling, Harry Richard. She attended Bishop Du Bourg High School graduating in 1959. After graduation, Sydney worked in several positions, most notably The Knights of Columbus, Anheuser-Busch (crowned Miss Budweiser in 1966), and Famous-Barr for over nineteen years. In 1966, Sydney married Roy Klostermann of St. Louis and together raised three children - Kimberly Stewart of Town & Country; Kirk of Chesterfield; and Keith of O’Fallon. Sydney has eight wonderful grandchildren. Sydney will be best remembered for her generosity, thoughtful spirit, and unending desire to put the needs of others ahead of her own. Whether it be raising three beautiful children who follow her example of being warm-hearted, caring, and trustworthy; caring for her brother, father, and aunt for over twenty years; hosting and cooking many holiday dinners; and shuttling grandchildren to dance competitions, cheerleading, sports events, etc. Sydney gave her heart and soul to her family and friends. She will be sorely missed for her passion and dedication to her mother and grandmother roles; love of her children and grandchildren; sage advice; stamina and perseverance; kind and loving words and thoughts. We cherish the day when we will see her again in perfect health and happiness! Services: Visitation will be held this Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton located at 10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis 63123. Mass will be held at St. Gabriel the Archangel on Friday at 11 a.m. located at 6303 Nottingham, St. Louis 63109. Bertram Walter “Bert” Maidment, Jr. passed away peacefully in his home in Overland Park, KS surrounded by his immediate family on May 7, 2024. Bert was born in Newark, NJ on January 25, 1947, to Bertram Walter Maidment, Sr. and Catherine Logan Maidment. Bert spent his earliest years in Springfield, NJ before his family moved to Florham Park, which Bert always thought of as his “home town”. Bert played soccer in college as a Red Devil of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. He insisted that “back then” soccer was a legitimate contact sport. He loved ice hockey, whether as a player, coach, or spectator and would argue that hockey is not a sport, but rather a disease. However, it was not a disease which he endeavored to cure, as he did so many others during the course of his career. Bert loved science and relished any opportunity to learn. After graduating from Dickinson with a B.S. in Biology, he pursued a Master’s Degree in Natural Sciences - Oncology, then a PhD in Experimental Pathology at the Roswell Park Memorial Institute of the State University of New York in Buffalo, NY. His multi-faceted professional career included biomedical device development, founding of small startup companies, government service, time in private industry as Director of Life Sciences and VP of Corporate Business Development for Midwest Research Institute (now MRIGlobal), culminating with his final full-time professional role as the Associate Director for Radiation Countermeasures and Emergency Preparedness with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). After retirement, he lovingly dabbled in a consultancy role which gave him the great joy of “getting back into the science” with whichever project stirred his inquisitive passions. Bert battled idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) for more than 6 ½ years. During this time, he was an inspiration to many. He was a board member of the Kansas City Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Despite requiring supplemental oxygen, he took on the American Lung Association’s Kansas City Fight for Air Climb four years in a row, raising significant funds to support lung disease research in the process. Bert met the love of his life, Mary Jane, at age 16 in Florham Park, NJ. After a decade they were married and remained so for more than 50 years up until his passing. He greeted everyone with a warm smile, and sometimes a wink. He was a man of great integrity, with a sharp wit and a penchant for puns. He relished any opportunity to play his guitar or tell one of his many amusing stories. He was a deeply devoted husband, father, and friend. He truly adored his wife and considered his children and grandchildren to be his greatest achievements. Even in his final days, Bert retained his warm and inviting nature and never lost his engaging sense of humor. Bert was preceded in death by his parents Bert Sr. and Catherine, sisters Norma Bourdin and Alice Beck. He is survived by his devoted wife Mary Jane, his daughter Bevin Parker (Fort Collins, CO) and her husband Marc, grandsons Cameron and Henry; his son Bert III (Overland Park, KS) and his wife Christa, grandson Logan, and granddaughters Brynna and Kenna.
