Marybeth was an amazing woman that devoted her life to her Residents and would do anything for her family and friends. Her laughter, smiles and passion for life brought great joy to her staff and her residents, as well as their families. Beverly L. Newell Beverly Louise (Maurath) Newell, a former resident of Bloomfield, CT, passed away on March 24 at McLean Health in Simsbury, CT after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was surrounded by her children and devoted husband of nearly 66 years, Richard C. Newell. Born and raised in East Providence, RI, she was the daughter of William C. Maurath and Hope B. Wood. Beverly would have celebrated her 90th birthday on May 27. Beverly was a graduate of Wheelock College and worked as an elementary school teacher for ten years, helping put her husband through medical school. She was dedicated to her family, an exceptional mother, and a loving grandmother. Beverly was a gifted artist, working through the years as a painter, pewtersmith, and porcelain painter. As a teenager, she rode horses and played the cello. As an adult, she was a pianist and tennis player. Beverly enjoyed the water and spending time at the beach. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener, serving as the president of the local garden club. She was active in the Bloomfield Congregational Church, volunteered with the Hartford Hospital Auxiliary, worked at a local art gallery, and turned her love of travel into a job as a travel agent. She and her husband retired to Gilford, NH, where they lived on Lake Winnipesaukee for 15 years. They enjoyed winters in Naples, FL, where Beverly tutored and exhibited her porcelain painting. The couple also lived in Avon, Chester, and Farmington, CT prior to moving to Simsbury. Beverly is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Richard C. Newell; her eldest daughter, Jan Newell Spears, and daughter Jasmine; her son, Randall S. Newell, his wife Karen, and their three sons, Matthew, Ryan, and Christopher; and her youngest daughter, Wendy Newell Hunt, her husband Pat, and their two children, Lila and Patrick. She is also survived by her sister, Gail Lyon, and husband Edwin, as well as many loving members of the Lyon, Malloy, and Newell families. She was predeceased by her sister, Clara. A memorial service is planned for May 19, 2019, at 12:00 noon at the Hill-Stead Museum, 35 Mountain Road, Farmington, CT 06032 (in the Makeshift Theatre). Please donate in the name of Beverly L. Greg's Daughter, Dr. Maggie Thomas Freeberg is doing research at Virginia Commonwealth University to help find a cure for Pulmonary Fibrosis! And every dollar we raise helps her and other researchers move their science forward. Community service was a way of life for Greg. In 1969, he became one of the earliest VISTA volunteers. He was a long time volunteer with the Boy Scouts, Meals-on-Wheels, Genesee Waterways Center, and the Red Cross (including providing hands-on aid to the victims of Katrina and many other disasters). Even while dealing with Pulmonary Fibrosis, he was involved with Rochester Community Bikes and Empty Bowls, and became a contributor to Rochester’s Sanctuary Village. Greg was the founder of Breathe Easy Rochester, a support group for people with Pulmonary Fibrosis and their caregivers. Michael Wayne Radford, age 68, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina passed away on April 16, 2020, after a two-year battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). It has always been his wish to be able to donate his lungs to research in help that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease could be found. Due to the current government restrictions, he was not able to donate his lungs. So we are asking in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made in his memory. Mike was married to Judy Thomas on February 17. They were eighth grade sweethearts and recently celebrated their forty-seventh wedding anniversary. On August 4, 1974, Mike, Command Sergeant Major retired, entered the armed services in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He served in the United States Army with the Corps of Engineers for 23 years and 7 months. After military retirement he began his second career, in the civilian sector, as a regional manager for FirstFleet, Inc. working for 22 years before retiring on May 2019. He enjoyed being a mentor for his daughter and supporting his family, friends, and church. Mike was an avid golfer and enjoyed riding his boat on the intracoastal waterfront. Mike is survived by his wife, Judy, son Michael John (husband Jason) daughter, Monaca (husband Jeremy), five grandchildren, Carson Michael, Jocelyn, Jackson, Mason Wayne, and Christian, two brothers E.J. (wife Diane), Vincent (wife Kathy), 27 nieces and nephews, and other family and friends. Mike is preceded in death by his father, Elbert James Radford, Sr, and mother, Mary Gill Britt.
