Our father, Bruce, passed away on May 6, 2022, from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a life-threatening lung disease that literally took his breath away. There is no cure for IPF, but Bruce and his doctors tried everything to make the progression slower and less painful for him. IPF causes scar tissue to grow inside your lungs and makes it hard to breathe. The life expectancy for IPF is 2-5 years from diagnosis. Bruce made it eight years past his diagnosis.Like all things in his life, he worked as hard as possible to postpone the inevitable. And how lucky we are that he did. His efforts allowed him to be the best grandfather to his eight grandchildren, a source of strength for his three children, and a partner to our mother, Linda. Before his passing, he asked that we do what we could to help find a cure for IPF. We are thankful for your donation to support finding a cure for this terrible disease and supporting our family.Stephanie, Jason & Suzanne All Donations go towards: • Finding effective treatments and a cure for pulmonary fibrosis• Advocating for the pulmonary fibrosis community • Promoting disease awareness • Providing a compassionate environment for patients and their families Please donate and together we can help those living with pulmonary fibrosis and the families of those we have lost. Edward "Eddie" Barr In December 2020, Edward was diagnosed with Dyskeratosis, a rare genetic form of bone marrow failure, the inability of the marrow to produce sufficient blood cells. While testing for his complications that came from the dyskeratosis Ed was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome and interstitial lung disease (pulmonary fibrosis). He was then told he needed a lung transplant in December 2021. Ed began testing to get on the list but then was diagnosed with colon cancer, where doctors then began viewing his options for curing the cancer. His only option with having dyskeratosis was to have colorectal surgery. On August 25th Ed had his colon surgery and was well after his recovery with minor setbacks. But a couple weeks later his body contracted an infection that caused his breathing to worsen where he ended up at Penn and passed peacefully with his family by his side. Ed always had a positive attitude throughout life. And through this journey he didn’t give up. He would tell his girls everyday he would get through this. Unfortunately, God had other plans. Ed has impacted so many lives and he truly lived his life to the fullest. People surrounding the Barr family knew the bond was inseparable. The Barr family wishes to help others and hopefully one day find a cure to help the families and patients diagnosed with dyskeratosis complicated by pulmonary. Jatinder Jaitly As many of you know I lost my father this year to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Watching this disease take over my papa's life was truly heart-wrenching to watch. My family and I didn't quite understand this disease but realized quickly that there is no cure for it. He was on oxygen 24/7 and we fought for him to get a lung transplant. My papa was a fighter since the day he was diagnosed. He wanted nothing more but to live. This disease took not only my father but a son, husband, beloved uncle, and a friend from all of us. Even thou my father is gone he left us with some beautiful memorable lessons. He immigrated to the United States at a young age from India. My father built himself up from having nothing to making his dream come true. He was a selfless man and put his family and children before his own needs. He would have wanted for his family to continue to live in his memories and laugh at his jokes. The pulmonary fibrosis foundation has great resources and information. I'm hoping through this I can shed more light and awareness for prevention and to get treatment quickly. Unfortunately, for my father the disease already had progressed so quickly into the advanced stage that no medication or treatment could have saved his life. I'm wanting to help this foundation in order for everyone to not only gain insight but to foremost help find a cure. Thank to everyone who has taken their time to read this and to donate. My family and I are forever grateful. Please donate in the name of Jatinder Jaitly, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found.
