Cecil "Sarge" Miller Cecil (Sarge) D Miller, beloved husband of Renee (Stech) Miller crossed over to the promised land at 3:35 pm on March 31, 2018, after fighting his last battle against a devastating lung disease, IPF. Cecil honorably served in the U S Marine Corps and retired as a Lieutenant from the U S Coast Guard. He also retired from the Department of Homeland Security. He served his country in various roles from 1957 until 2008. Cecil was a Zoo Docent Volunteer at Cleveland for 25 years and a Docent at Tampa Lowry Park Zoo for 4 years. He loved animals and was interested in their conservation. Cecil suffered from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). IPF is a fatal disease that causes scarring of the lungs which robs the IPF patient the ability to breathe and has a 3-5 year life expectancy. "Sarge" fought a hard battle against this disease with humor, strength, and courage. It is a disease in which tissue deep in your lungs becomes thick and stiff, or scarred, over time. The formation of scar tissue is called fibrosis. IPF affects about 128,100 people in the United States, with about 48,000 new cases diagnosed annually. 40,000 people die each year to IPF. Char Terpsma Charlotte A. Terpsma (Oppenhuizen), age 67, of Kentwood, went home to be with her Lord on her birthday, Saturday, March 21, 2020. Born in Grand Rapids in 1953, Char attended Grand Rapids Central Christian High School. She enjoyed singing, gardening, and bicycling-holding a record (1990) for the 24-hour challenge. She really loved spending time with her family and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. Char worked as a Credit Administrator at Pleune Service Company where she was employed for the past 15 years. She was the president of the National Association of Women in Construction from 2012-2014. Char will be lovingly remembered by her children, Michelle Wright, Rachel and Tony Thampan, Jeremy and Melissa Terpsma, and Elizabeth and Ted Mosies; her five grandchildren, Gabriela, Caleb, and Anna Thampan, Jeremy Terpsma Jr., and Samantha Mosies; She will be greatly missed by her former husband David Terpsma; her brothers, Don and Shirley Oppenhuizen, Roger and Lois Oppenhuizen; her sisters, Marie and Tom Rogers, Karen and Sonny Garber; former sister-in-law, Sally Terpsma; former brother-in-law, Dan Terpsma, former mother-in-law, Mary Terpsma, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Char was predeceased by her parents Engelus (Oppie) and Gladys Oppenhuizen, former father-in-law Peter Terpsma, and former brother-in-law Peter Terpsma. Charles E. Lindsey More photos My father had an engaging smile and the most kind and generous soul. All who met him left feeling better about themselves. His life was well-lived with pride, dignity and respect for everyone. Unfortunately, his life was cut short by Pulmonary Fibrosis, a horrible and devastating disease with no effective treatment or cure. Chip Hall “I bid all my friends a fond farewell. I have been fighting IPF since May of 2017. It has been stable for the last 4+ years. I have been keeping my IPF strugle private. Then end of september 2021 suddenly my lungs started deteriorating rapidly I have been in and out of hospital since October 4th. Current stay started Dec 12th. It has been another exciting Chip adventure. I took a challenge to catch a big wave. Tough ride. Been on top for a long time. Commanding view. Peaks and troughs, Stumbles and back to balance. It’s been an adventurous ride. Somehow I lost sight of my beach and the wave has taken me to a new shore. One with new beginnings. I count my blessings with all my loved ones, friends and advisories who all educated me well. My spirit lives on. No journey too tough if you have faith, will and inner strength. My life has been one big exciting adventure. For which I am grateful. Many travels and many life threatening journeys, of which I have survived. Much love, great friends, good times. .
