He was a warrior against this unseen enemy(especially the last few months) until the day that he passed December 28th 2022. We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have him in our lives as long as we did. He had this incredible zest for life and living including a love of reading, traveling to dozens of countries, studying immunology and the brain, serving as a passionate healthcare provider and truly caring for his patients, listening to classical music, opera and learning languages. He had a wonderful sense of humor and truly lived in the moment, like none other. He had an amazing 50+ year marriage with his wife who enriched and filled his life with joy and laughter. We have just emerged out of the IPF battlefield and have seen first-hand the wretched suffering this disease inflicts. The slow drown went on for months and it was unbelievably difficult to witness. It was jarring, has scarred our memories and, unfortunately, is something that none of us will ever forget. Ali Mazaheri 10/01/1945 - 03/12/2023 Over the last 4 years, Ali courageously battled lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. At the time of his passing, he had been cancer free for 9 months, but pulmonary fibrosis doesn't have a cure and results in death. Ali lived an extraordinary life filled with amazing adventures and passion. He was loving, hard working, intelligent, witty, wise, and grateful. He loved poetry, Rumi, reading, story telling, growing fruit trees, animals, and his ranch. But above all else, he loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, an incredible father and an amazing grandfather. Kyungil "KC" Cho "The Mountains are calling, and I must go."KC cared deeply about people and always put others first. He loved his family, his home, his garden, and his neighborhood in OC. His greatest joy was being a grandfather after he retired from 30 years of public service, working for the State of California. He was proud of his Korean heritage, his alma mater (Seoul National University), and his service in the Korean Air Force.K.C. did not let IPF limit him from living life to the fullest. He was passionate about the outdoors and was true to the philosophy of John Muir who wrote, “The Mountains are calling, and I must go.” He hiked and skied until his last year with small oxygen tanks on his back. Up until his last month, he walked an hour a day on the beach, swam in a pool with his oxygen tanks on floats, and exercised with a personal trainer. KC used a portable oxygen machine to travel and spent his last year adventuring... driving across America to see the national parks, hiking in the footsteps of Charles Darwin in the Galapagos Islands, and becoming a Hawaiian "native,” enjoying stunning Maui sunsets with his toes in the sand. Marybeth was an amazing woman that devoted her life to her Residents and would do anything for her family and friends. Her laughter, smiles and passion for life brought great joy to her staff and her residents, as well as their families. Loved and respected by all as she treated everyone in her loving way and had a way of listening that made you feel like you were the only thing on her plate at the moment.Her coworkers and the resident families know how fortunate they are to have had her leadership and love.Her strength and dedication will be missed almost as much as her heart and her laugh, which was pure joy. Dan fought this horrible disease courageously for 8 years. He did amazingly well for 6 years which Dan's doctors attributed to his music training which helped condition his lungs.
