Judy Erskine Please donate in the name of Judy Erskine, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found. Judy had a zest for people and travel. Despite being diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis some three years ago she managed to continue her passions for family, friends, and seeing the world. A beloved mother and grandmother, she continued to host Sunday family dinners and make time for her grandchildren. She regularly had lunch with friends and kept an active social calendar including Neil Diamond fans, Orange Elks, church events, and fellow travelers. Travel was both her hobby and career, and she served others as a travel agent for over 30 years. Cruising down the Danube and visiting other exotic locations with friends, her pace may have slowed, but her determination to continue a normal life was unmatched. Judy was one of the rarer diagnosis in that she had none of the inherent risk factors: environmental exposure, smoking, etc. that are typical in most Pulmonary Fibrosis cases. Phil (aka dad) was the Greatest Man we ever knew.. he was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2012. The Dr's told him that he had 2 weeks to live and given the option to go to a care facility or go home and enjoy the rest of his days. In true fashion, he told the disease where it could go and 6 months later, hospice was firing him as a client. He knew every day was borrowed time and lived it to the fullest. Greg's Daughter, Dr. Maggie Thomas Freeberg is doing research at Virginia Commonwealth University to help find a cure for Pulmonary Fibrosis! He was a long time volunteer with the Boy Scouts, Meals-on-Wheels, Genesee Waterways Center, and the Red Cross (including providing hands-on aid to the victims of Katrina and many other disasters). Even while dealing with Pulmonary Fibrosis, he was involved with Rochester Community Bikes and Empty Bowls, and became a contributor to Rochester’s Sanctuary Village. Toni Bauernhuber On Sunday, November 8th 2020 Toni Ann Bauernhuber ended her fight with Pulmonary Fibrosis surrounded by her loved ones. Toni was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Joann, her siblings Jeannette, Kevin and Rick. Survived by her husband John, her children Sam(Shannon), Jeremy, Jessica(Nico) and Lisa; her grandchildren Selena, Brianna, Nick, Olivia, Liliana, Emiliana, Nicholas, and Darlene; her siblings Mark and Mike. She was a loving mother, wife, sister, and grandmother, who made sure that all those around her felt loved. She had a talent for crafts, putting love and care into each project. Each one a work of art in its own way, that family would wait in anticipation to receive regardless of the occasion. That was the woman she was, taking care to make sure those around her felt loved and important. Leading by example to her children, who grew to show the world the same kindness. Come holiday season, she looked most forward to the time spent with her loved ones. The fondest memories were having her grandchildren come to her house to help decorate for Christmas. She enjoyed most, the time spent with her family and connecting with those around her. She enjoyed spring and the new life that it would bring. Having a passion for gardening included spending time outdoors with her beloved flowers. Towards the end of her life she aspired to move to the Oregon coast, spending her time among the trees and roaring ocean. The beach being one of her favorite places to go when she was able. After building a beautiful home and new life in North Bend, she wanted to plant a field of wildflowers to add her touch to the already expansive forest. Not only did she want to add beauty to this world but she was one of the most beautiful people all were lucky to meet. Bob was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis over ten years ago. Lawrence D. “L.D.” Schnake passed away on December 22, 2021, at his home in the presence of his family. L.D. was born in the home of his parents, Lawrence and Thelma Schnake near Stark City, MO. L.D. grew up on the family farm, preparing him for a career in agriculture. After graduating high school, L.D. attended the University of Missouri, achieving his Bachelor’s Degree in biological science. L.D. participated in ROTC, and after his undergraduate studies, he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Army and spent two years stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, in artillery. In 1964, L.D. met Barbara, and they married later that year. L.D. entered graduate school at Oklahoma State University, completing his Ph.D. in agricultural economics in 1972. That year, L.D. and Barbara moved to Manhattan, and Barbara gave birth to their son, John Lawrence. L.D. worked at the US Department of Agriculture field office in Manhattan until 1984, when the family moved to the Kansas City area when he started work at the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. L.D. retired in 1999 but never slowed down, commenting, “I haven’t ever figured out how I had time to make a living!” L.D. had a life-long love of landscape and spent many joy-filled hours tending to plants and his yard. He enjoyed tinkering and fixing anything he could get his hands on. L.D. and Barbara enjoyed annual trips to Rocky Mountain National Park in the fall. L.D. expressed his love of music by singing in the Old Mission United Methodist Church choir. L.D. was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Roy Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, son John (Dawn), sister Doris Johnson, and two grandchildren. A memorial service has been scheduled for April 23, 2 pm, at Old Mission United Methodist Church, 5519 State Park Road, Fairway, KS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or Old Mission United Methodist Church.
