I'm fundraising for SIGN Fracture Care International because they do amazing things, like providing free surgical implants to injured and impoverished people in developing countries. Specifically I'm trying to raise the remaining money for the SIGN nail instruments and the first set of implants for Hospital Lumiere in Haiti. After that the implants will be provided for free. As long as the surgeons at the hospital send the collected data (x-rays, pictures) of the patients that are treated with a SIGN nail to the company. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. I have made 4 trips to Haiti, most recently in late January 2019. The patients there are wonderful people and often have devastating injuries. To improve and sustain orthopaedic care at the hospital they need this system. Donated implants are drying up and typically require much more invasive surgery than the nails will require. On this last trip I had a little extra time (instead of making rounds) because Haley went with our team and took on a large share of the work. I realized that applying for this implant system and then making a donation to get the instrument set was more important for me to do. The initial costs are $19,500 and we are halfway there! Fortunately they are sending the instruments and nails soon, allowing us to pay our debt off over time. On the SIGN nail website they have a section "Party with a Purpose."
