Dr. Walter Rayford, MD is a Urologic Oncologist in Memphis, TN and has been practicing for 20 years. He graduated from JSU with a degree in Biology; and holds an M.B.A. in Business from the University of Tennessee; a doctorate in Biochemistry and an MD from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Dr. Rayford has published extensively in the areas of prostate cancer and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Tennessee. He currently holds membership with many distinguished associations, including the American Urology Association, the National Medical Association, and the Association of Clinical Urologists. Dr. Rayford provides exceptional urological care to patients in metropolitan Memphis area.

Deborah Bynum

Mrs. Deborah Bynum is the First Lady of Jackson State University and a 38-year employee of AT&T. Because of her faith, love for her family, and dedication to service, she has launched the JSU Tiger Career Closet to provide professional attire to students to help them with job interviews and attending various functions. Mrs. Bynum has also initiated the “Go Blue, Be Green Recycling Program” on campus and has worked with students and staff to provide new recycling bins for plastic, paper and cans. She desires to encourage the JSU Family and community to help take care of the environment to leave it in a better condition for generations to come. Mrs. Bynum and her team are seeking funds to create the inaugural First Lady’s Endowed Scholarship.

Dr. Hillard L. Lackey

Dr. Hilliard L. Lackey is Associate Professor of Urban Higher Education and Coordinator of Doctoral Student Development with the Executive PhD Program at Jackson State University, a position he has held since 2008. His earlier administrative positions were Director of Alumni Affairs, Director of Development, Ombudsman and Assistant Executive Vice President covering the period 1967-2002. He served for two years (2003 and 2004) as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, TN. His entire 49-year career has been in higher education as an administrator and faculty member with 47 years at Jackson State University He served as president of the Jackson State University National Alumni Association from 2004 to 2010. Prior to that, he served as President of the Council of National Alumni Associations (All HBCUs) from 1988-1993 and President of the Mississippi Inter-Alumni Council 2003-04. He became the 9th JSU graduate inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2008. He was inducted into the JSU ROTC Hall of Fame in 2017. He rose to the rank of Brigadier General and Deputy Commander of the Mississippi State Guard over a period of 25 years before retiring in April, 2016. He is a 1965 graduate of Jackson State University, a 1967 alumnus of the University of Arkansas and 1991 alumnus of theUniversity of Mississippi. He was born as one of eleven children to sharecropper parents and grew up on a cotton plantation in rural Quitman County near Marks, Mississippi. He was raised in the church and became a junior deacon, Sunday school teacher and deacon. Here in Jackson, he is chairman of the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’i Faith, a delegate to the National Convention, and a chaplain with the Jackson Police Department. Dr. Lackey is married to his childhood sweetheart Mrs. Lillian Troupe Lackey who is a retired Jackson Public Schools math teacher. They are the parents of Dr. Katrina Lackey Davis, a medical doctor; Hilliard Lawrence Lackey IV, a marine biologist; Dr. Tahirih Lackey Babineaux, an engineer; and Darryl William Lackey, an entrepreneur Dr. Lackey believes that he has been created to Know God, to Serve God, and to contribute to an ever-advancing civilization. He is committed to doing all the good he can, for all the people he can, for as long as he can.

Dr. Bill Cooley is a retired Dean Emeritus of the Jackson State University College of Business. He is a well-known businessman in the United States and he and his daughter, Toni, own several businesses, including Systems Electro Coating, LLC, - a tier-one supplier to Nissan and Toyota. Since 2001, Systems Electro Coating has rapidly become a proven leader in quality electrocoating and related services with a customer base that spans numerous automotive and industrial companies. Dr. Cooley and his team are working to establish a new endowed scholarship to support students in the College of Business.

Thaddeus & Kalia Reed

Thaddeus (Class of 07) and Kalia Reed (Class of 08) are natives of Mississippi. The Reeds have established a new endowed scholarship in honor of the late Dr. Jacquelyn C. Franklin. The scholarship will support students in the Colleges of Education, Liberal Arts, and Business. They currently reside in Houston, TX and are LIFE Members of the university. Thaddeus finished in Management from JSU and is employed with Union Pacific Railroad as Lead Sales Manager and Kalia finished in Marketing from JSU and is employed with Westlake Chemical as Rail Logistics Analyst II. Both earned their MBAs from Bellevue University in Marketing. Thaddeus is also a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The Reeds are the owners of Reed Enterprise, which provides customers the best when seeking custom printed apparel. Reed Enterprise is a licensed vendor with JSU. Thaddeus & Kalia are the proud parents of two future tigers, Thaddeus Jackson (TJ) and Karter James (KJ).
