On Sunday, November 3, I will be participating in a Run/Walk 10K/5K to raise money for Latino/Latina students who have been accepted to four-year colleges and universities but need financial support. Most of them will be the first people in their family to get a higher education. The organization is META Foundation - Making Education the Answer, and for almost twenty years they have been helping these students, who against many odds have been accepted to top colleges and universities across the country. Jose got an A+ in Calculus II at MIT. (I was fortunate to pass Calc 2 with a C!) Julissa is one of my favorite volunteers for META. Sara was an excellent volunteer at UCI this summer, helping new, first generation students not feel so overwhelmed. Gina is studying nursing to help people like her grandfather who is suffering from dementia. David graduated from Stanford with a degree in Political Science, interned at Salesforce and is starting his Master's Degree at Stanford. Elijah graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Applied Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science. Veronica is the first in her family to graduate from high school and to attend college! META personally touched & inspired me due to the struggle I experienced in high school. These kids coming from improvised situations, extreme life circumstances within Los Angeles County have already overcome and won! Being excepted to Ivy League Schools nationwide. Meta applicants to my surprise average of a 4.2 GPA! META is providing the door to establish talented Latin Americans within the leadership of our nation.
