As a Freemason, I've seen first hand the joy on the face of some of these amazing people. The sense of pride they feel when they can get out there and show their stuff. I just want to be able to help more of them be able to go to these events.

A group of Grand Valley State University students and I are collecting donations to allow all deserving Special Olympics basketball teams to attend the local District 11 tournament. This program will enable athletes to compete in Unified team play. Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities to compete together on the same team. Every year teams are left out due to financial restrictions; thus, members of Special Olympics are missing out on valuable life experiences. Your donation will help fund a team in need to attend the final tournament in future years. If you would like to donate, you can click the link below!

Hi! My name is Katie Orlin and I'm currently a student at Duke University. Throughout my childhood and time before Duke, I spent a lot of time playing sports and investing in my passion for athletics. I was a synchronized ice skater for ten years and competed regionally, nationally, and internationally. I am fortunate enough that I was able to pursue my dreams, and now I want to make sure that every kid also has this opportunity. Now, as an undergraduate student I stay involved with synchronized skating as an assistant coach for a group of young girls in the North Carolina. Additionally, I have taken an interest in running and have now set a goal for myself to run a half marathon. Not only was being an athlete a physical test on my body, but the sport allowed me to develop perseverance, dedication, and hard work that have all contributed to my current success as a student. As I set my sights on achieving another athletic goal of mine, and running a half marathon I would like to contribute to the athletic community of those who are not always given the chance to participate in athletic competition. I will be running my FIRST half marathon on April 4 in Winston Salem, NC, and I kindly request for you to donate to this cause as I run this race. I am running to help every athlete live their dream and participate in the incredible culture of sport.
Hello fellow NSO members! Our community partner is currently Special Olympics. There are quite a few volunteer opportunities (Click here to see them all: https://www.soill.org/regiona/ ) that are available for us to volunteer at this semester! However, as nursing students, we understand you all have busy lives and families to care for. If you are unable to volunteer or simply want to send some extra help to the Special Olympics community. Help the NSO reach their goal of 200 dollars donated for the spring semester of 2020.
We are a group of Grand Valley Students who have made it a goal to make a difference in the Grand Rapids Community. Special Olympics provides a special experience for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by providing year-round sports competitions. Area 11 covers the Southwest Region of Michigan, and includes Grand Rapids. There are 1,194 participants and 16 sports offered including basketball, swimming, volleyball, etc. Our efforts are to provide financial assistance that goes towards sending teams to District 11 and to provide jerseys or sports equipment where needed. Any donations are appreciated and will be personally given to the organization right before the school semester ends in April!

The Samurai Shodown community is dedicated to supporting a strong and inclusive competitive spirit for all players. Through a community driven effort, the Issen Madness event will provide learning opportunities for new gamers, will promote healthy competition among players, and will provide opportunities for to better serve our growing community. The Special Olympics is an organization that understands the importance of providing coaching and competitive opportunities for athletes and space for communities to develop that competitive spirit we all cherish. By supporting our event, and by supporting the Special Olympics, you continue to foster that spirit for the next round of fighters whoever they may be.
I learned the importance of the work Special Olympics does through my involvement with Unified Basketball and Bowling teams at Penfield High School. I want to help as many children as possible achieve their dreams.
