Hi there! My name is Maike Schwarz, and I love taking pictures in my free time. I also have an older sister named Svenja, who was born prematurely and is therefore mentally disabled, but physically very able. This Christmas card project is where these two worlds meet: a photo card with a message. Special Olympics (the world’s largest sports organization for anyone with intellectual and physical disabilities) has been the light of our lives for quite some time. Svenja has been gifted natural talent, mixed with her hard work, for sports. Last year, she made it to the Germany Track & Field team and went to the World Special Olympics Games in Abu Dhabi, where she won two gold medals. As you can imagine, this was the most amazing experience for her and our family, and for every other athlete at this event. This year has been a difficult and confusing time for many of us. Through it all, I’ve seen my sister and many other disabled individuals struggle in their own way, and for Svenja it was difficult to stop going to her sport events, which used to give her structure, meaning, emotional release and happiness. Special Olympics had to cancel most of their events, which is why I decided to try and support them from how I can: through photos. I’ve dedicated some time to take these Christmas pictures / cards and asked the households for a small donation to SO in return. The Imperial Outlanders: Emerald Empire Detachment sadly cannot attend a polar plunge this year due to social distancing, but that doesn't mean we're not going to experience the temperatures of Hoth! Our squad is putting together an ice bucket challenge to raise money for the Special Olympics of New York, an organization that has inspired and assisted people with different intellectual needs and creates empowerment through physical activity and sports. HOW IT WORKS: Within 24 hours of being challenged, participants have to record a video of themselves in continuous footage. First, they are to announce their acceptance of the challenge, followed by pouring ice into a bucket of water. Then, the bucket is to be lifted and poured over the participant's head. Then the participant can nominate a minimum of three other people to participate in the challenge. You may donate any amount of money at any time, of course. Donation Suggestions: Nominated by another IO member: $3 if you ice yourself within 24 hours of nomination $23 if you do not ice yourself within 24 hours of nomination Nominating yourself: $3 for yourself and $3 for each person you nominate to ice themselves within 24 hours of nomination. They will then need to follow the protocol above. Repeat Nominees: You may repeat the challenge as many times as you are nominated with the addition of a contribution as it states above. However, since you have already donated once, it is fair to forego donating again. If you wish, hold up a piece of paper during another video with the number of challenges you've been nominated for, share the challenge on your social media page, then nominate four more people to participate.

Special Olympian Christopher J. McClam loved his Uncle Howie Liebengood, enjoyed spending time with him, displayed great joy and confidence in learning new things, and traveled everywhere with him. Simply put, Howie loved Christopher and supported him in every way, especially through Special Olympics. This campaign honors Howie's life and his passion to see that Christopher and other beautiful souls with intellectual disabilities experience happiness, celebration, and friendship.

Hello, my name is Andrew Ryan and I am the Philanthropy Chair at the Chi Deuteron chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa. The Special Olympics is very important to our chapter and our goal is to raise $3,000 for them. Everybody should get the opportunity to get involved with athletics, and the Special Olympics does amazing work bringing this opportunity to people with intellectual disabilities.

2023 let’s go!!! Teamwork makes the dream work! I chose to raise money for the Special Olympics because I am a strong believer of “keeping your body in motion” . I am currently serving on Active Duty within the United States Army,I am dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in our communities across the globe and how we view sports and our athletes! I am hosting this fundraiser on enhancing our awareness of inclusion and sustaining the mindset of NEVER placing limitations on ability, determination and discipline. I strongly support staying active mentally, physically and within our community to create a large sphere of positive influence. No matter where you are in life, you should always strive to stay active. The Special Olympics has held a huge place in my heart for many years, I believe it takes courage to compete and these individuals do not let anything stop them from giving their all.
