The University of Arkansas- Fort Smith's is campaigning to add funds to the general scholarship fund. I love how UAFS works tirelessly to take care of their students and to help them make ends meet. If this is an area that means a lot to you, please join me in making a donation. Use my link: https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/GIVEUAFS/JasonMerritt and I will make an additional $1 donation for every one of my friends that donates any amount--I wish it could be more, but I need to be financially realistic. ;-) I believe all donations need to be made between now and the "Day of Giving" on April 28th! Please join me in supporting UAFS Students! For transparency, there is a $500 prize to the person with the most donors, so any amount is appreciated. IF I happen to win, that $500 prize will also all go to the UAFS General Scholarship Fund. UAFS is an amazing part of our area, and I am very proud to support them. :-) NOTE: When you go to make a donation, make sure to choose "General Scholarship Fund" on the drop down box, so that the funds go there.

SEAP provides financial assistance to students facing emergencies. We cover everything from car repairs and housing damage to essential utilities and medical care—financial burdens that have the potential to delay or derail students' progress towards a degree. This program helps keep their dreams alive, and it's made possible by contributions from donors like you. Thank you! About the Student Emergency Assistance Program The purpose of the Friends of the University Student Emergency Assistance Program is to provide financial assistance to UAFS students who find themselves in a temporary emergency situation. Emergencies are considered circumstances beyond a student’s control. In most cases, assistance will not exceed $1,000 per academic year. Funding for this program is provided by private gifts raised through the UAFS Foundation. We assisted 53 students (since March 2020). Spent $33,980.56 Avg of $641.14/student. The most commons things are rent, utility bills (including internet), and car repairs. A Message from the Dean of Students "Before I became involved with the Student Emergency Assistance Program, I assumed our students were happy-go-lucky people. When I met with students in my office, they always seemed so cheerful and happy. Sure they may have had an issue or two, but nothing some good advice couldn’t fix. "After one semester working with this program, I realized that some of our students are not okay. They just are not okay. Some of our students go to class knowing that sitting at home on their kitchen table is a utility shut-off notice, or when they return home, there may be an eviction notice on their front door. Many of our students are living paycheck to paycheck, so when that flat tire comes out of nowhere or when they have an unexpected doctor’s visit, it is a big financial burden. That burden might also delay or derail their progress towards a degree. These sudden emergencies can become dream enders. We cannot allow that to happen." -Dr. Dave Stevens, associate vice chancellor for student affairs & enrollment management and dean of students. The Student Life Office at UAFS is raising funds to go towards service learning initiatives & to invest in our students through leadership development opportunities that we can make possible through Day of Giving! I believe strongly in the impact that the Student Life Office has on our students, so for the first $25 that is given to my cause, I will match that $25 to make it $50! If you knew me in college, you know that being involved was my reason for staying in college. Academics are important - they are the purpose of a college degree - however, many don't realize that not every student is "an academic." I attribute my successes so far, although minor in the long-term plans of life, to my leadership opportunities gained while at UAFS. My college experience was once in a lifetime. I created, I endured, I learned, I grew, I disappointed, I made proud, I developed lifelong friendship... I made the most of my short time there. And I want the current students to have those same opportunities if not more. Donate to support student activities leadership and service-learning opportunities for UAFS students! About our Project The Student Life Office fosters student engagement, leadership development, and diverse co-curricular programming through facilitated opportunities, preparing students to become responsible global citizens and informed leaders. Our Day of Giving funds will be used to sponsor service-learning initiatives and student leadership opportunities through leadership conferences and workshops, furthering our mission to support the growth of UAFS students. Donate today to help us reach our goal! Student Activities Office LionHeart Greek Life Campus Activities Board

I have had the opportunity to work with SEAP and hear the stories of the students requesting assistance. I truly believe it is a program that is making a real difference in students' lives.
