Hello friends and family! I am thrilled to share that we get to go back in the pool this year for Swim a Mile to support the Women’s Cancer Resource Center! I’m signed up to swim Saturday Oct. 2 which should be quite an adventure for me since I haven’t been in a pool since March 2020! I did swim in the American River once this summer… I’ll be fine and no matter how long it takes me I’m really pleased to support WCRC this way and be part of this wonderful event. In addition to swimming, I’ll be doing a walk with my Dunkin Doh’Nuts team since some of us can’t swim this year. Please consider donating to WCRC to support them and our efforts – any amount will help inspire me to swim those 72 lengths. All of WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge and are 100% funded by charitable giving. No donation is too small and it all goes to support WCRC services. Swim a Mile has been one of my favorite days of the year for at least a decade – before I became a participant, I would go cheer on my friends (who are now my Doh'Nut teammates). I am grateful that I can swim, that I get to do with my friends, and that we can support the great work WCRC does and the free services they have continued to provide during the pandemic for women with cancer. I wish you all good health - Thank you! Christine You can donate by clicking the button above, or send a check with my name in the memo to: The Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth StBerkeley, CA 94705

In honor of my mother, Lisa Lonner, I will be participating in the Swim A Mile for Women with Cancer on October 2nd, and I invite you to support this important cause! This an annual fundraiser benefiting the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Since 1986, WCRC has provided programs and supportive services for women with cancer in the Bay Area. In truth, I don’t enjoy fundraising or asking friends for money, but the importance of WCRC compels me to go outside my comfort level. The Women’s Cancer Resource Center improves equitable access to cancer information, support and care. They help women with cancer navigate through the often overwhelming health care system so that they can get the appropriate care and treatment you need. And all of their programs and services are free. So, please consider a donation, no matter the amount. (I promise I will ask you again next year). Thanks in advance. Your support will directly help more than 2,500 people over the next year!

Thanks for checking out our team page! We're joining forces to raise funds for the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Your donation will help provide free services to women with cancer in the Bay Area. Please read about Matilda's journey below. When Matilda was around 1 year old, she had a check up on her liver (that had caused some concerns when she was in utero). The liver looked fine but they found some big abnormalities with her kidneys. One of her kidneys was 20 times the size of a normal kidney. This finding led to a CT scan, a test to make sure her kidneys were functional, then to many blood samples and finally to a diagnosis. Matilda had an extremely rare but treatable condition called “nephroblastomatosis” in her kidneys and needed chemotherapy to treat it. She had surgery to insert a port in her chest and started chemotherapy in May 2019 with weekly infusions for 6 weeks. After this she received chemo every 3 weeks until January 2021 with quarterly MRIs to monitor how the treatment was working. So many pokes, so many tears and so many times watching *Frozen* at the clinic. The medicine worked and her kidneys shrunk. It also cleared out the nephroblastomatosis and right after treatment ended she got her port taken out in February 2021. We took an amazing Summer trip to Finland to visit family that had been delayed for years due to her diagnosis. We lived carefree and and “normal” for the first time in a long time. Her hair grew in thick and blond and was long enough for mini pig-tails. This past week, the quarterly MRI was due to check on her kidneys. The results showed a growing nodule in her left kidney that will require surgery to be removed and most likely followed by chemotherapy. We can’t believe that this is happening, again. Matilda is the ultimate Warrior. We gave her this name because of its etymology (meaning “strength in battle”). She is spunky, sensitive, silly, independent, inquisitive, caring and “gives the best hugs” according to her aunt. She is so brave and strong and continues to amaze us throughout this journey. She indeed hates to be held down and poked but otherwise feels really comfortable at the hospital and charms the staff left and right. We swim this mile for Matilda. For her beautiful spirit and strength in this battle. Please have her in your thoughts.

We, Allison Solomon, Emma Popek, Harriet Sollod, and Beverly Dubrin will be back at the Mills College Pool on October 2, 2021, for the 2021 Swim A Mile/Move A Mile for Women with Cancer. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the Women’s Cancer Resource Center. The photo above is from our 2019 swim. Having missed swimming together in 2020, this will be an especially fun event for the four of us. Please sponsor any, or all, of us.
