Hello, I will be participating in the Swim A Mile for Women with Cancer as a proud event committee member again this year. My 2.5 miles of kayaking last year was super fun and thank you for all your support! This year, I pick standup paddleboard for 2.5 miles as my Swim A Mile/Move A Mile activity. I hope you'll support me by making a contribution :). This is a fantastic annual fundraiser that benefits the work of the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Since 1986, WCRC has provided programs and a network of supportive services for women with cancer in the Oakland/Berkeley areas and other bay area cities. Women’s Cancer Resource Center (WCRC) offers a wide range of free programs and services to women with cancer. 70% of WCRC’s clients are women of color, and 60% live below the federal poverty level. WCRC's free service helps many women to battle cancer and support them through their journey to recovery and beyond. All of WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge -- and are 100% funded by charitable giving. We, Allison Solomon, Emma Popek, Harriet Sollod, and Beverly Dubrin will be back at the Mills College Pool on October 2, 2021, for the 2021 Swim A Mile/Move A Mile for Women with Cancer. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the Women’s Cancer Resource Center. The photo above is from our 2019 swim. Having missed swimming together in 2020, this will be an especially fun event for the four of us. Please sponsor any, or all, of us.

Here we go again! In early October I will be participating in the amazing event called Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support! Last year was particularly hard on them as they couldn't hold this event in person, but they're continuing the "Move a Mile" option for those who don't feel comfortable at an in-person event yet or those who don't love the water. In honor of my mother, Lisa Lonner, I will be participating in the Swim A Mile for Women with Cancer on October 2nd, and I invite you to support this important cause! This an annual fundraiser benefiting the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Since 1986, WCRC has provided programs and supportive services for women with cancer in the Bay Area. In truth, I don’t enjoy fundraising or asking friends for money, but the importance of WCRC compels me to go outside my comfort level. The Women’s Cancer Resource Center improves equitable access to cancer information, support and care. They help women with cancer navigate through the often overwhelming health care system so that they can get the appropriate care and treatment you need. And all of their programs and services are free. So, please consider a donation, no matter the amount. (I promise I will ask you again next year). Thanks in advance. Your support will directly help more than 2,500 people over the next year!

Hi everyone! Kristal here. This year, I will be participating in the Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support of my fundraiser! Read below for more information about my activities and to learn more about this amazing annual event that benefits the Women's Cancer Resource Center of Berkeley. ABOUT MY INVOLVEMENT WITH WCRC in 2019, I participated in this event for the first time and swam one mile (36 laps). In 2020, I started volunteering to help plan the Swim A Mile -- which became the Move A Mile, due to the pandemic closing down the pool. I fundraised, conducted interviews with other fundraisers, and helped with social media. Now in 2021, I volunteered for the planning committee again and I'm fundraising again! This year is also special for me because one of my close family members received a cancer diagnosis. Thankfully she was able to get it treated successfully during the summer and we were all extremely relieved and grateful for that. She definitely inspired me to volunteer and fundraise again. <3 2021 ACTIVITIES Because of personal time limitations and pool closures, I won't be swimming, but I have been hiking a bunch this summer. For my donors and anyone interested, I'm including information about a few new hikes I did and enjoyed! I used the All Trails app (free version), which is super awesome. Check out a few of my hiking highlights here! BONUS: I unearthed an audio project* I made in college and the subject was cigarettes and the cigarette industry, as a way of reflecting on my grandfather's lung cancer diagnosis. I'm happy to share that with you, too. It includes copyrighted material, so it's a private track on Soundcloud. Please don't share it with others or use it for any other purposes other than personal listening. Lung Cancer Project (9 min, 9 sec long) *shoutout to my spouse for helping me fix the file THANK YOU! This year, I'm upping my fundraising game by providing thank you gifts to anyone who donates to my page. This will be a small memento from my hikes (TBD, but most likely a magnet with a photo I took or a sketch I made). I am grateful for your generosity toward women with cancer and for my fundraising efforts, and I would love to say thank you with a small token of love.
