Hi there, I will be walking 500 miles from now until October 31 to support the Women's Cancer Resource Center. This is a fantastic annual fundraiser that benefits the work of the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Since 1986, WCRC has provided programs and a network of supportive services for women with cancer in the Bay Area. All of WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge -- and are 100% funded by charitable giving. You can donate here or send a check with my name in the memo to: The Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth StBerkeley, CA 94705Thanks in advance for your generous donation. It will directly support more than 2,500 people over the next year! Warm regards, Virginia

Ten years ago this summer I was recovering from major surgery and undergoing debilitating chemotherapy. I had just been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, and given the extensive spread to my lymph nodes my 10-year survival prognosis felt pretty grim. My goal was to live long enough that my children (who were then 7, 4 and 2 years old) would remember me. I'm so grateful to have blown past my initial goal and made it to the 10-year mark, thanks in no small part to very good health insurance, great medical care, and an incredible support network. To celebrate this milestone I have set a goal of raising $10,000 for the Women's Cancer Resource Center (WCRC) so that women less fortunate than I was can have access to equitable health care and support services as they battle cancer. All of WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge and are 100% funded by charitable giving. I have been honored to serve on the board of WCRC for the last three years, and have seen first-hand what a gift this organization is to women in crisis. I hope you'll consider making a contribution in support! You can donate here or send a check with my name in the memo to: The Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth StBerkeley, CA 94705Thank you in advance!

Hello dear friends and family! In early October I will be participating in the Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support! I know what it's like to have incredible support for anything that cancer throws my way, from hats to food to rides to conversations that go deep, but not every cancer patient has such support. This is a fantastic annual fundraiser that benefits the work of the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Since 1986, WCRC has provided programs and a network of supportive services for women with cancer in the Bay Area, but especially for low-income persons, people of color, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. This includes supports such as transportation to treatments, translation during medical appointments and counseling, among others. All of WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge -- and are 100% funded by charitable giving. This event raises one third of WCRC's budget and I hope you'll consider supporting our team's efforts. You can donate here or send a check with my name in the memo to: The Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth StBerkeley, CA 94705Thank you again in advance for your generous donation, and for your support and encouragement during my own journey to fight cancer. Our fundraising will directly support more than 2,500 people over the next year! All my love, Bernadette

We Can Do It!

Thanks for checking out my page! I'm joining forces to raise money during this fantastic annual fundraiser that benefits the work of the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Since 1986, WCRC has provided programs and a network of supportive services for women with cancer in the Bay Area. My dear friend Beth, who many of you knew, used the services of WCRC as she fought her ten year battle against colon cancer. My sweet friend Leonard's late wife Rita benefitted from the support of staff and members from WCRC as she struggled with ovarian cancer. Like a swimming friend does when she fundraises for cancer, on October 2 I will wear a special cap with those two women's name on it, as well as the names of my dear husband, Len, who died of multiple myeloma and my wonderful friend Ruth Anne, who waged a valiant battle against glioblastoma. I will think about Christine and Susan who are fighting the fight. If you want me to add somebody's name on my cap, please let me know. I hope you will join me to raise funds for this amazing organization. Just click the "Join This Team" button. Thank you for your generous support of my Swim A Mile! All of WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge -- and are 100% funded by charitable giving. Dear Family and Friends: In October I'm participating in the 26th annual Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer. I sincerely hope you will contribute to support my fundraising efforts! This annual fundraiser benefits the psycho-social programs of the Women's Cancer Resource Center, an East Bay, health-equity organization that has supported under-served women with cancer and their families for more than 35 years. I have been on the Board of Directors for seven years and am honored to have served as Board Chair since 2018. For me, one of the highlights of each year is to serve as captain of the Board of Directors’ and Friends’ Swim A Mile Team. Much to our dismay, we are still dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, but that is not stopping Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for 2021. Our clients and our community continue to feel the impact of this virus and disruption of life. So, we value your support and donations more than ever before. Many WCRC clients are facing the combined trauma of cancer treatment, and the economic, health, and psychological impacts of the pandemic. Once again, I am swimming and walking (Yes, we again have several ways to participate) to ensure that WCRC continues to be a lifeline for many women with cancer. These thousands of people from all backgrounds participate in WCRC’s programs to help bolster their quality of life through cancer treatment and this pandemic. Please help me ensure that WCRC's 100% free programs continue into the future. I am also participating in this 26th anniversary Swim event to honor my mother, sister-in-law, husband, and a growing number of friends who passed from cancer, as well as all of the people and loved ones whom WCRC has served and have persevered through cancer. We are proud WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge – and they are 100% funded by charitable giving. I hope you will consider donating today. You can contribute online, or mail a check with my name in the memo to: Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth St.Berkeley, CA 94705With deep gratitude!Penni

Once again this year, I am swimming a mile to help fund the wonderful work of the Women’s Cancer Resource Center, as they continue to support those who have the added burden of dealing with cancer during a pandemic. This will be my tenth year participating in this event. The first time I swam was many years ago, long before I knew I would ever face cancer myself (but with my sister in mind). Now that I’ve been through it twice—the challenges of chemo and radiation in 2007 for anal cancer and two surgeries and more radiation in 2015 for breast cancer—I have a far greater understanding and appreciation of the work that WCRC does in helping women with cancer every day. I swim because I know how lucky I was. The people who took care of me in 2007, and again in 2015—the doctors, nurses, technicians, counselors, work colleagues, friends, and family—made all the difference in the world to me. I want other women who face cancer to have all the support they need. And that is exactly what the Women's Cancer Resource Center provides! All of WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge -- thanks to the generosity of donors like you! Hello, dear friends and relatives, On October 3, 2021, I am going to try and swim one mile for the Women’s Cancer Resource Center, but I need your help. This is a cause so dear to my heart since I am a 3 time breast cancer survivor. I want to try and raise as many tax deductible donations from you as possible and you have helped me so much in previous years. I am also going to swim this mile in memory of my wonderful mother, Hannah Schmutz, who went to Heaven last December 2020. Any of you who would like to give, please click as shown and help a wonderful cause. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you don’t want to charge this, you can send me a check to my home and I will take it to WCRC so all is safe.

I am part of Team Janet's Angels who are swimming in memory of our dear friend Janet, who succumbed to breast cancer at age 42. In 2020 we had to do our swims and walks on our own. As you can see in my photo, I did a lot of walking during the Covid19 lockdowns. I thank all my past generous supporters and hope you will continue to sponsor me in 2021 as I raise funds for the Women's Cancer Resource Center and the numerous free-to-all Cancer support services that it provides.

Dear Friends and Family, I’m excited to be returning to Mills College aquatic center this year with my team for our 12th year, to participate in the Swim a Mile/Move a Mile, a fundraiser for the Women’s Cancer Resource Center (WCRC). 12 years!!! I’m darn-tootin’ proud of that!! I’m thinking…a red rose for every year -- a Swimmer's Dozen! I'm looking forward to, once again, joining the hundreds of other swimmers, for a CO-VID safe Swim. We're ready to don masks, socially distance, jump in the pool, and swim our mile! The Women’s Cancer Resource Center will celebrate 35 years of helping thousands of people with cancer navigate through the often overwhelming health care system so that they can get the appropriate care and treatment they need. WCRC is improving equitable access to cancer information, support and care. I hope you’ll support my fundraising efforts this year; and donate what you can. With gratitude, Liz

Dear Friends and Family, It is once again time for the Women’s Cancer Resource Center’s (WCRC) annual fundraiser. Swim A Mile raises funds that allow WCRC to continue to offer FREE services and support to women as they navigate their personal care related to cancer. I will be participating in the Swim A Mile on October 2nd, and I hope you will be able contribute with a donation. Since 2002, generous friends and family have helped me raise over $49,000! This goes a long way in allowing WCRC to continue their FREE services which include psychotherapy, support groups, art and wellness classes, community-based patient navigation, and information, as well as referral to community resources. Thank you for your support. You can find more information about WCRC at WCRC.org. All donations are tax deductible. Sincerely, Kelly

It's Swim A Mile season -- my favorite of the year! Last year we changed up the event to become Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer. We're keeping that option this year, but I for one can't wait to get back in the pool! It has been 24 years since I started volunteering in the In-Home program for the Women's Cancer Resource Center. My clients brought joy and meaning to my life during a time in my life when I was experiencing a lot of upheaval, and the ripples that they created are still widening.I am so very proud to be on the staff of WCRC, and, personally and professionally, to help raise the funds that it needs to continue its mission. The Women’s Cancer Resource Center provides free services to improve equitable access to cancer information, support and care. After a hard but successful year of transitioning to a remote organization, we are excited that we will be opening our doors again soon, and that we will be able to become a hybrid organization to best meet the diverse needs of our clients.I'm super thrilled that we'll be able to get in the pool again, too!Your donation today would mean a lot to me and to the people we serve. A donation of any size makes an impact. You can donate here, or send a check with my name in the memo to: The Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth StBerkeley, CA 94705Thank you so very much! I make the yearly Swim in honor of my daughter, Meighan Maguire, who survived Hodgkins Lymphona and has gone on to raise two fabulous boys - Jager and Aiden Metz - in addition to earning her Ph. D, buildng a fabulous career and engaging in major volunteer efforts. This year I have a dear friend continuing her good fight against Lung Cancer - her name will also be on the Honor Wall; current advances in treatment have helped her maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. Others of you have asked me to post honors for other fighters as well. I also honor several friends who are cancer survivors - Joan Goldenberg, Kathryn Conway, Mareva Godfrey, Sandra Mitchell, and Sue Cooper. I also honor two other survivors - Mikki Aaronoff and Dottie Yeoman, long-time friends. Sadly in 2017 we lost my big brother Bill Holmes and Edith Byron (Alex’s mom) and had to add them to the list of several others who did not make it - including my Tante Jeannette Couly, Melissa's good friend Rory Gaynor Berk, Alex's Aunt Phyliss, Dori's mother Lucile Robbins, Dave's stepmom Anne Wiley and his aunt as well as our former tailgater Sally Wiley, Ed Murphy's friend Rosemary, and Sandy's friends John and Tina Discon. In 2019, we lost Jim Appel, Mark's Dad, and Doug Best, our Lair Tailgate 'Souper Chef'. In 2020, we lost another long-time tailgater to cancer, Craig Wiley, who is now reunited with his beloved Sally! If you have anyone you would like me to honor, please let me know - whether or not you make a contribution. All of my honorees have their names posted on the Recognition/Remembrance Wall and I will send you a picture of the card as it is posted on the wall. All donations are tax-deductible, and make a world of difference to WCRC's clients. The Swim A Mile/Move A Mile is a fantastic annual fundraiser that benefits the work of the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Since 1986, WCRC has provided programs and a network of supportive services for women with cancer in the Bay Area. All of WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge -- and are 100% funded by charitable giving. You can donate here or send a check with my name in the memo to: The Women's Cancer Resource Center2908 Ellsworth StBerkeley, CA 94705 Thanks in advance for your generous donation. Through 2020, you helped many people; counting all nine swims, together we have raised close to $25,000 to support WCRC activities. To celebrate the 35th year of WCRC and the 26th Swim, I plan to bring that amount up well over $26,000 as my 35th Anniversary Challenge, hopefully having 35 donors and making this year's result at least $3,500!

Hi, I am fundraising with TEAMGENENTECH! We're joining forces to raise funds for the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Your donation will help provide free services to women with cancer in the Bay Area. Want to join us? Click the "Join This Team" button or register on your own. Thank you for your generous support of our Swim A Mile! My plan this year is to join the swimmers, runners, walkers, and cyclists on October 2nd this year. My commitment is to run and/or swim 1 mile for every $1,000 that I raise this year. 2020 was so disrupted with the pandemic, and poor air quality, and so many challenges in our country. This year, I'm really excited that I can get back together with my team and do something for women in need of our support. Thank you!

Dearest Friends and Family, Another year has blessed me with the strength and heart to Swim A Mile for Women with Cancer. It’s no coincidence that this is my 18th Swim-A-Mile… a year in which I’ve been consistently reminded just how precious life is, and learned how to keep my heart open while standing next to baffling loss and grief. The number 18 symbolizes Life. That’s what I’m swimming for this year. Life going forward for grieving friends and loved ones, as they honor the lives of three beloved people who left us, too early, this year: Isaac Mitchell (17), Theresa Chavez (61), Dianne Germaine Wallace (53). My swim honors them. Life for those of us still here, whether grieving, celebrating another day, muddling through, remembering to appreciate a moment. And of course Life energy that courses through the Women’s Cancer Resource Center (WCRC) as they support thousands of women to find their strength, maintain their dignity, and know deep-down just how much they are loved. I return to the Swim-A-Mile each year because the WCRC truly does good work. I’ve watched both the event and the organization grow exponentially in the 18 years I’ve participated, and I know firsthand just how direct and useful donations are. The WCRC hosts a healthy (and growing!) number of programs for women with varying needs, interests, passions when it comes to living with (and hopefully without) cancer. All of them are directly possible because of your generosity. I hope you’ll sponsor me this year to support the WCRC’s biggest fundraising event. No amount is too small (or big!) – and if you can’t donate, not to worry. Please send the name(s) of anyone you’d like to add to my prayer list. A mile+ in the pool gives me a lot of time to count everyone in my blessings…! Thank you for supporting an organization so close to my heart. It’s worth every penny. You can donate by clicking HERE. With infinite gratitude and love, Kelly P.S. A brief note! All donations are tax-deductible. WCRC's programs and services are provided to more than 2,500 clients each year… 100% free of charge, and 100% funded by charitable giving. Each and every gift helps ease the burden for WCRC's clients in real and concrete ways: Stress Reduction: $25 can cover the costs of supplies for WCRC's cultural and healing arts program Good Nutrition: $50 can purchase organic ingredients for its cooking and nutrition program Improved Health: $100 allows support with navigation through cancer treatment, improving medical outcomes Community Engagement: $250 can pay for a comprehensive training for program volunteers Economic Security: $500 can provide emergency financial assistance for a client with cancer to pay for rent, utilities or groceries Stronger Families: $1,000 can fund six months of free therapy.

Dear Beloved Friends and Family Members, I am honored to be participating in my 4th Swim A Mile/Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support of my efforts! I will be walking two miles on October 2 & 3 at Mills College to support people with cancer. This year, I committed to three actionable words to live by and they resonate deeply as I begin my training and fundraising efforts. Purpose - While I feel like I have spent much of my life walking in purpose, this past year of hurt, fear, and uncertainty has reinforced my purpose - to help others as much as I can and stand with those who need us most - our vulnerable community members. WCRC is a lifeline for low-income people with cancer and welcomes ALL people into their community. Joy - It has been harder for me to find my joy during this past year as it was necessary to shelter-in-place, wear masks, and stay distant from others as we navigated this pandemic. I missed hugs, seeing smiling faces and knowing that my smiling face could not be seen behind my mask. My joy and inspiration came from being able to connect with colleagues, volunteers, clients, supporters of WCRC, and each of you. Gratitude - The gratitude I feel in my heart overwhelms me. I am so grateful for all of you in my life who support me in helping those living with cancer. Because of you, WCRC is able to serve over 2,000 people each year. All of WCRC's services are provided 100% free of charge -- and are 100% funded by charitable giving. You help so many with your generous gifts. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting me and the clients of the Women’s Cancer Resource Center. Amy PS - Please provide me with the name(s) of those you would like for me to place on our Tribute Wall at the event. I will also place their name(s) on my T-shirt and keep them close to my heart as I complete my two miles.

It was two years on August 12 that I started swimming again. I decided soon thereafter to attain the goal of swimming a mile. As I did in 2019 This year, I again will be participating in the Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer, and I hope you'll make a contribution in support of my Swim! I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to swim at Mill's College, as I did in 2019.
