Thanks for checking out our team page! We're joining forces to raise funds for the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Your donation will help provide free services to women, many of whom are low-income and women of color. As a current cancer patient, Bernadette knows how important resources such as transportation, patient advocacy and language translation can be for those going through cancer treatments. The WCRC offers such resources to women who are often the care-takers in their families and communities and who now need that support in their cancer journey. She is grateful for all of the LOVE Warriors who are swimming/moving to raise funds for the WCRC! Want to join us? Click the "Join This Team" button or register on your own. Thanks for checking out my team page! I'm joining forces to raise funds for the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Your donation will help provide free services to women with cancer in the Bay Area. My dear friend Beth, who many of you knew, used the services of WCRC as she fought her ten year battle against colon cancer. My sweet friend Leonard's late wife Rita benefitted from the support of staff and members from WCRC as she struggled with ovarian cancer. Like a swimming friend does when she fundraises for cancer, on October 1 I will wear a special cap with those two womens' name on it, as well as the names of my dear husband, Len, who died of multiple myeloma and my wonderful friend Ruth Anne, who waged a valiant battle against glioblastoma. I will think about Christine and Susan who are fighting the fight. If you want me to add somebody'd name on my cap, please let me know. I hope you will join me to raise funds for this amazing organization. Just click the "Join This Team" button. Thank you for your generous support of my Swim A Mile!

We, Allison Solomon, Emma Popek, Harriet Sollod, and Beverly Dubrin, will be back at the Mills College Pool on October 2, 2021, for the 2021 Swim A Mile / Move A Mile for Women with Cancer. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the Women’s Cancer Resource Center. Having missed swimming together in 2020, this will be an especially fun event for the four of us. We all participated last year from our home bases. Please sponsor any, or all, of us.

Thanks for checking out our team page! We're joining forces to raise funds for the Women's Cancer Resource Center. Your donation will help provide free services to women with cancer in the Bay Area. Please read about Matilda's journey below. When Matilda was around 1 year old, she had a check up on her liver (that had caused some concerns when she was in utero). The liver looked fine but they found some big abnormalities with her kidneys. One of her kidneys was 20 times the size of a normal kidney. This finding led to a CT scan, a test to make sure her kidneys were functional, then to many blood samples and finally to a diagnosis. Matilda had an extremely rare but treatable condition called “nephroblastomatosis” in her kidneys and needed chemotherapy to treat it. She had surgery to insert a port in her chest and started chemotherapy in May 2019 with weekly infusions for 6 weeks. After this she received chemo every 3 weeks until January 2021 with quarterly MRIs to monitor how the treatment was working. So many pokes, so many tears and so many times watching *Frozen* at the clinic. The medicine worked and her kidneys shrunk. It also cleared out the nephroblastomatosis and right after treatment ended she got her port taken out in February 2021. We took an amazing Summer trip to Finland to visit family that had been delayed for years due to her diagnosis. We lived carefree and and “normal” for the first time in a long time. Her hair grew in thick and blond and was long enough for mini pig-tails. This past week, the quarterly MRI was due to check on her kidneys. The results showed a growing nodule in her left kidney that will require surgery to be removed and most likely followed by chemotherapy. We can’t believe that this is happening, again. Matilda is the ultimate Warrior. We gave her this name because of its etymology (meaning “strength in battle”). She is spunky, sensitive, silly, independent, inquisitive, caring and “gives the best hugs” according to her aunt. She is so brave and strong and continues to amaze us throughout this journey. She indeed hates to be held down and poked but otherwise feels really comfortable at the hospital and charms the staff left and right. We swim this mile for Matilda. For her beautiful spirit and strength in this battle. Please have her in your thoughts.

We are so glad to be able to be part of the WCRC Swim A Mile/Move a Mile again this year. We have been participating in the Swim A Mile for a long time. First it was us cheering for Beth (BC). Then, Emma began swimming and us cheering. Then Michael joined, then Daniel, then Anne. We went from cheering to being in the water and raising money for a great organization! Michael, BC and Jim are connected in many ways but one is that they have all lost a sister to cancer. We swim for Jill, Kathy and Dianna. We swim for those cancer has stolen from us and for those that have been saved from cancer. We hope you will support our swim by donating, sharing our message, sending us your positive thoughts or asking us to swim to honor someone. Thank you for helping us help others. With gratitude, Anne, Michael, Emma and Daniel
