HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL! The Pad Project is thrilled to be partnering with RWQuarantunes! RWQuarantunes has raised over $11.8 million dollars. Their admirable fundraising efforts began as relief for those most affected by COVID-19 at the peak of the crisis, but has expanded to other charitable organizations, including the Equal Justice Initiative and Broadway Cares. On Sunday, October 11th, their fundraising efforts will continue with The Pad Project as we come together to celebrate International Day of the Girl. "Since March, Quarantunes has been raising money for some incredible organizations and causes and to be able to raise awareness and money for International Day of the Girl and the Pad Project is so exciting. And I finally get to co-host a Quarantunes with someone my own age!!” - Demi Weitz Please join us in celebrating the girls in your life by supporting girls around the world and ensuring their access to menstrual products. About The Pad Project The Pad Project’s mission is to create and cultivate local and global partnerships to end period stigma and to empower women worldwide. Through innovation, education, and advocacy, The Pad Project aims to help girls feel empowered in their bodies, achieve economic independence, understand their reproductive and sexual health options, and harness the power to shape their lives. So far The Pad Project has installed 6 pad machines, implemented a reusable cloth pad-making program, and provided several grassroots organizations with microgrants to purchase menstrual supplies in bulk. We Need Your Help! Women and girls in low income communities often face a lack of access to menstrual products. 1 in 5 American girls have either left school early or missed it entirely because they didn’t have access to sanitary products. (1) Around the world 2.3 billion people lack access to basic sanitation services. (2) In India, 71% of girls said they did not know about menstruation before their first period. (3) The combination of period poverty, stigmatization, and inadequate reproductive and sexual health education has major consequences for girls’ wellbeing. That’s why The Pad Project partners with grassroots NGOs to install pad machines, implement reusable cloth pad-making programs, and run menstrual hygiene management workshops. Unfortunately, the lockdowns caused by COVID-19 have jeopardized the ability of our NGO partners to continue providing women in their communities with affordable menstrual supplies. So we need your help! A woman should not depend on her husband or any male family member to meet one's needs or to make oneself financially independent. Working in The Pad Project has given me the confidence to think and apply in real life that as a woman, I can be financially independent. ~ Zhehuli, pad machine production staff; NGO partner: EcoHub Your donations will support our existing partnerships in India, Kenya, Sierra Leone, and the U.S. and will help us implement pad machines, reusable cloth pad-making programs, and menstrual hygiene management workshops. HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL! For the past 25 years, UNICEF has taken October 11th to honor girls around the world, and we at The Pad Project are choosing to celebrate with RWQuarantunes this year. Please join us in celebrating the girls in your life by supporting girls around the world and ensuring their access to menstrual products. This year, we are thrilled to be partnering with Quarantunes. Their admirable fundraising efforts began as relief for the NYC medical community at the peak of the COVID-19 crisis, but has expanded to other charitable organizations, including the Equal Justice Initiative and Broadway Cares. Since March, Quarantunes has raised over $10 million dollars, and on Sunday, October 11th, their fundraising efforts will continue with The Pad Project as we come together to celebrate International Day of the Girl. About The Pad Project I began working with The Pad Project during the pandemic and their work has grown near and dear to me. The organization is at a critical growth juncture but the global pandemic is threatening that growth and could limit the number of lives that TPP can positively impact in the next few years. With the Covid-19 crisis likely to accentuate and worsen the world's greatest inequities, it is critical that we double-down on efforts to support organizations like this which aim to make the world more equitable. The Pad Project’s mission is to create and cultivate local and global partnerships to end period stigma, enact menstrual equity, and empower women worldwide. HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL! Dear Friends, As you may know, my daughter Claire Co-Founded the nonprofit The Pad Project when she was just 14 years old. I am proud to have worked alongside her, serving on the Board of Directors of this incredible organization devoted to ensuring that women and girls around the world are not prohibited from reaching their full potential just because they cannot afford pads or tampons. Together, we produced Period. End of Sentence., which won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short. Winning an Oscar with your daughter is an unimaginable feeling—one that I cherish everyday. Today, on International Day of the Girl, we are humbly asking our family and friends to stand with us and leverage our collective resources to support The Pad Project's mission. The economic disparities and public health challenges caused by COVID-19 have made it nearly impossible for women and girls in certain communities to access the period care products they need. Please continue reading to learn more about the incredibly impactful work being done by The Pad Project, as well as our International Day of the Girl fundraising partner, RWQuarantunes. With all our love and gratitude, Lisa & Claire About The Pad Project The Pad Project’s mission is to create and cultivate local and global partnerships to end period stigma and to empower women worldwide.
