As many of you know, over 10 years ago, Nicholas and I put together a bowling team the "Sweeney Strikers" to support Family Services mentoring programs. Well here we are, and at least one of us (yup me) is still at it. Mentors can be the one thing that turns a child's life around. They provide guidance, support, and friendship and are often the only consistent person in their mentees life. This year, with the challenges that the pandemic has created, mentors are working harder than ever to keep their mentees safe, focused on school and on the right track. During this COVID-19 pandemic, there is an increase in the need for our services because of the trauma, stress, and anxiety that most people are experiencing. For the last 2 years I have been mentoring a teenager through the Family Services of the Merrimack Valley's Big Friends/Little Friends program. Bowl a Strike For Kids is the ONLY fundraiser specifically dedicated to their mentoring programs and due to COVID-19, the fundraiser has gone virtual this year. Big Friends Little Friends relies on fundraising to make and support their mentoring matches.
