Athletics

The MCLA Athletics Department has embraced a 3-2-1 vision: our goal is to have all student athletes reach and maintain a 3.0 grade point average; all teams competing in the top two of their conference, and all students and staff working together as one team. Your gift supports travel to play competitive opponents, recruit talented student athletes, meet special equipment needs, and provide an exceptional student athlete experience. You may designate your contributions to a specific team or where it is most needed to advance the athletics program.

History and Political Science Internship Legacy Fund

Update as of 2:00 p.m. on 4/29: We’ve met our goal of seeding the fund! Thank you to all the alumni and friends of MCLA for your support of this important program. History alum, Bob Ziomek ’89, will match dollar for dollar the first $500 in gifts made to the Legacy Fund during MCLA Gives. Support the students of History and Political Science by contributing to building an endowment that will help to cover the costs associated with semester-long internship programs. Internships have become increasingly important in fields such as political science, but opportunities are very limited in the North Adams area. MCLA has worked hard to establish a relationship with The Washington Center in Washington, DC, to provide a valuable experience for our students. The additional costs of a semester in Washington currently puts this opportunity out of the reach of most of our otherwise bright and hardworking students. Your support will help to establish an endowment so that students of History and Political Science students are able to complete internships with no barriers to access.

Internships

The student internship experience is very important to the curricular experience at MCLA. Your support will allow for equitable access to internships, ensuring that every student is able to access the career-enriching possibilities these experiences offer, without concern for credit-costs, housing costs and other typical barriers to access.

Lavender Fund

This funding expands existing initiatives at MCLA to ensure that LGBTQIA+ student life is enriched and protected. Your support will allow us to enhance scholarship opportunities and programming access for LGBTQIA+ students. Launched in 2019, The Lavender Fund raises annual support to bring LGBTQIA+ community speakers to campus, send students to attend LGBTQIA+ conferences, and sponsor student trips to historic and influential locations associated with the LGBTQIA+ civil rights movement.

Lift Ev'ry Voice Fund

The Lift Ev'ry Voice Fund, is a new initiative that supports scholarship and programming opportunities for MCLA’s African American and Black students.Nationwide, there is a pronounced racial gap in enrollment rates at top colleges and universities around the country. Data from the National Center for Education Statistics reveals that African American students only accounted for 14% of total undergraduate enrollment in 2016, while white students accounted for 56%. In order to live up to our reputation as a Top Public Liberal Arts College, it is paramount that we support and raise every student who wishes to come through our gates. The fund is named for Lift Every Voice and Sing – often called “The Black National Anthem” – written as a poem by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938) and then set to music by his brother John Rosamond Johnson (1873-1954) in 1899.

MCLA Emergency Funds

Our goal is to provide every student with the support they need to finish their degree without delay due to the impact of COVID-19 and other emergencies: being unhoused, food insecurity, or technology needs. According to research, insecurity in one area can cause a domino effect, leading to students ultimately choosing to pause their education. Your support will be put directly into the hands of students by supplementing the MCLA Resiliency Fund for COVID-19 relief and the Food Insecurity Fund.
