Rebecca Janny's Retirement - For My Brother Michael

After 32 Years of Teaching for the Oconomowoc School District, I have decided to retire. I have always been an advocate for our children and our community. People have asked me what I want for my retirement. In lieu of any gifts for me, I ask for a donation to Rodgers Memorial Hospital in memory of my brother, Michael Kutschenreuter. On September 11, 2008, my brother died of a heroin overdose. He left behind a son and a family that loved him. Michael was an artist, had an impeccable sense of humor, was an incredible brother, and an outstanding father. He loved his son more than anything in this world. Sadly enough he could never get a hold of his addictions. If you have ever lost a friend or family member to an addiction, you know firsthand how painful it can be. It is like having your arm amputated... you learn how to survive, but your life will never be the same. Roger's Memorial Hospital was the last place my brother was in treatment. While he couldn't get a hold of his addictions, there was a doctor at Rodgers that believed in him. Even bought him a red easel to encourage him to keep painting. I still have the red easel in my house, you can see it in the picture above. Isn't that what life is about, believing in someone, giving someone hope, wanting to ride the bus with them when the limo has been taken away without judgment. I picked Michael up from Rodgers Memorial Hospital the day he was released... easel in his hand... smiling from ear to ear. I have never seen him so happy. A memory I cherish to this day. In hopes of helping someone else battle the fight of Mental Health Issues and Addiction Issues please consider making a donation to Rodgers Memorial Hospital in memory of my brother, Michael Kutschenreuter. At the end of the day, it will honor everything I have believed in for the last 32 years... to show compassion, love, and the will to help others. With all my heart..... Rebecca
