This is my 5th year participating in The Rescue Mission’s One Night Without A Home event to raise funds and awareness for the men, women and children seeking refuge and help through the Rescue Mission's life-changing/life-giving programs. This experiential event gives me a small taste of what life on the street (or under a bridge) is like without security, comfort, and resources. Yes, many struggling on the street are there due to their life choices and personal circumstances. However, they too are made in the image of God and are members of our community....our neighbors. Jesus said "love thy neighbor." He wasn't talking about the neighbors who invite us over for a cookout or to the lake....he was talking about the ones who can't repay us, the rejected, devalued, have made mistakes! Will you join me in the fight to provide, through the power of Jesus Christ, a home for the homeless, food for the hungry, and hope for their future? Thank you. Andy
The Rescue Mission is on the front line helping those who find themselves in a desperate/hopeless situation. In October I along with others will be sleeping in a card board box to help raise awareness and money for the 3,000 men, women, and children who are experiencing a homeless crisis in Northeast Indiana. Will you join me in the fight to provide, through the power of Jesus Christ, a home for the homeless, food for the hungry, and hope for their future?

In memory of Thomas Tritch, I sleep out for The Rescue Mission’s One Night event to raise critical funds and awareness for the 3,000 men, women, and children who are experiencing a homeless crisis in Northeast Indiana. Will you join me in the fight to provide a home for the homeless, food for the hungry, and hope for the hopeless. On 11/6 it will be the 20 year anniversary of my father’s passing. The Rescue Mission was close to his heart, and has been close to mine since his death. Please consider helping me honor him with a donation.
I sleep out for The Rescue Mission’s One Night event to raise critical funds and awareness for the 3,000 men, women, and children who are experiencing a homeless crisis in Northeast Indiana. I also CELEBRATE my friends and colleagues who have healed from past trauma, overcome their barriers to employment, found a greater purpose, and are now showing others that all things are possible through Christ who strengthens us. Will you join me in the fight to provide, through the power of Jesus Christ, a home for the homeless, food for the hungry, and hope for their future by making a gift today?

Welcome to (unofficially named) Team Ultimate Chicken Horse's [Jay & Ben] page for One Night Without A Home! . "One Night Without A Home is a sleep-out event that allows participants to raise awareness and funds for the men, women, and children of The Rescue Mission." . The (unofficially named) Team Ultimate Chicken Horse will be camping out on the night of October 9, 2021. . Now you may be thinking: What kind of (unofficial) team name is Ultimate Chicken Horse? We picked a name that we hoped would capture our friendship, hopes for the evening, and add some humor for those cheering us on at home. We clearly hope for an 'ultimate' experience but the rest of the name takes some unpacking and frames your participation and support. . Ultimate Chicken Horse is a video game we are both fond of where over the course of multiple rounds the players (as various barn animals) try to navigate from a starting point to a finish zone. Each round gets progressively more difficult as the players add barriers, items, or destroy elements of the map. Usually the addition or subtraction of game elements result in terminating characters for the round but we won't be playing that way in real life (for reasons our wives both fully support). . But here's where you can participate in supporting (unofficial) Team Ultimate Chicken Horse! Beyond raising awareness for persons experiencing a homeless crisis, this is a fundraising campaign for the Rescue Mission which seeks through the power of Jesus Christ to provide a home for the homeless, food for the hungry, and hope for their future. We are hoping to raise $500 for the Rescue Mission via our participation in One Night Without A Home. Our basic plan is to get a tent (Jay) and a hammock (Ben) and camp out in Jay's backyard for the night then drive to the Rescue Mission in the morning for breakfast (as a throwback to how previous iterations of ONWH finished). . BUT! You can impact (unofficial) Team Ultimate Chicken Horse in a manner similar to the game. If your support crosses certain financial thresholds ('Rounds'), it will modify our night without a home. . Round 1: If we raise at least $100, neither of us will have a sleeping bag and will only use our tent and hammock. We will finish the night by driving to the Rescue Mission for breakfast in the morning. . Round 2: If we raise at least $250, we will sleep up against a pine tree in Jay's backyard with only the clothing that we have on. We will finish the night by driving to the Rescue Mission for breakfast in the morning. . Round 3: If we raise at least $500, we will get dropped off at the site of the old Rescue Mission at 5:30p (which is the starting check in time for the night at the Men's Shelter) with sack dinners from the Rescue Mission and rough it for the night in downtown Fort Wayne. We will finish the night by walking to the Rescue Mission for breakfast in the morning. . BONUS ROUND: For every increment of $50 beyond our $500 goal, we will carry with us for the whole night some kind of item that our participants generally need to keep with them at all times that may seem unexpected. We can both attest that it can be difficult to accommodate the "gear" that our participants carry around with them such as a wheelchair, walker, camping gear, pack of clothes, etc. so we will seek to be on the other side of the "gear" for a night. If we break $1000 we will walk from Jay's house with all our "gear" to 301 to simulate the reality many of our participants face of having no form of transportation (or maybe a flat bike tire) and the busses not running in the evening/Sundays. Unfortunately we are not able to go out and pick up persons who call us asking for a ride back to TRM. . {P.S. For the eagle eyed among you, you may have noticed that I haven't yet explained how the game captures our friendship. It may seem odd that a game where you basically intentionally encourage other players to fall off ledges, get sucked into black holes, or cannon'd off could say much good. But as friends in the trenches, we daily encounter broken people who have fallen off of emotional and societal ledges and spend most days with people stuck in black holes of addiction, poverty, and homelessness. We find ourselves cannon'd around and enduring all manner of surreal experiences which are types of deaths for us (and tragically real deaths for some of them). But we are blessed to encourage each other in representing the Life giving Light of Christ to the men, women, and children we serve as well as our coworkers. It's an Ultimate Chicken Horse kinda job, kinda friendship, kinda life. We wouldn't have it any other way. Peace to you Christ Jesus :D}

Calling all friends! Hope all is well... On 10/29/21, I am sleeping in a box all night to raise awareness for the homeless and supporting our local shelter. This will be my third year participating in this event... Over the years I have heard and seen tragic stories from people without a home who have made bad decisions, grew up in homes with parents who made bad decisions, diagnosed with incurable diseases, have mental illnesses, etc. No matter what story I have heard or situation I have seen, I know that their spirit could be rich with the love of Christ. Last year, our Bible study group helped a man named Robert to find a stable apartment and share with him God's love. Today, he has throat cancer and has no one but our group to help him with basic needs. It takes the contributions of many to help even one like Robert. Our local shelter is just one of many fighting to help those without a home and basic skills to thrive in our society. Could you join me in spreading that love by donating to the cause- use the link to donate?

3,000 men, women, and children are experiencing a homeless crisis IN NORTHEAST INDIANA alone!! The Snazzy Snoozers are entering the fight to provide, through the power of Jesus Christ, a home for the homeless, food for the hungry, and hope for their future? We will spend One Night Without A Home, sleeping outside somewhere, walking in the shoes of the homeless to remind myself of their plight and how blessed we are. Will you please join us? Or will you beg for us, and help us reach our goal?

The Rescue Mission in Fort Wayne has an event called One Night. This is an opportunity to experience a small taste of what it is like to be homeless, raise awareness and raise money for the mission. Typically this is done in groups at a common location. Since Covid-19 hit this is now virtual event. I plan to spend my One Night sometime in late October. My fund raising goal is $300. For every $20 donated I’ll get to choose a “comfort” item to survive the night. For example the 1st $20 = Blanket; the 2nd $20 = Water; 3rd $20 = Heat source, etc. The Rescue Mission’s One Night event to raise critical funds and awareness for the 3,000 men, women, and children who are experiencing a homeless crisis in Northeast Indiana. Will you join me in the fight to provide, through the power of Jesus Christ, a home for the homeless, food for the hungry, and hope for their future? Hey everyone please join me in raising money for this program. Anything donated goes straight to them does not come thro me! I sat my goal at $500 But would love to raise so much more! I have personally been to this place and seen what they do first hand and would love to be a small part in helping them help others! I absolutely love what they do and how they do it. And also how they uplift people even down to a walk with Christ! A bed, food, clothing, job placement,credit, finances, mental help, addiction, counseling,etc…. Me and my kids will be doing this one night! (Sleeping outside) I think it would help bring awareness as well as help them appreciate what we have and for being great full as well as help them understand others in need that is homeless either from there own actions or stuff that was out of there control. I think at this point it’s fare to say we all have done wrong at some point in our life. And we all have had something done wrong to us! Let’s help show love and support to one another every small thing makes a impact and a difference! Let’s help make our world a little better! Let’s love one another! Let’s help save lives! Let’s help bring as many as possible to Jesus! Let us be a light where there is darkness!

On occassion, I get a 'bee in my bonnet' about injustice in the world and have to do something about it. The fact that there are so many homeless in this city breaks my heart. Many times homelessness is just a symptom of a greater issue. The work of the Rescue Mission is committed to not just providing a meal and a warm bed and hope the problem goes away... they are committed to creating true change and healing! Who's ready to help with true change??
