Nontraditional students have nontraditional costs. Your donation will help ADCP students pay for things like prior learning portfolio credits and CLEP exams as well as tuition and fees. About our Project The Adult Degree Completion Program serves adults over the age of 25 who work full time and have at least 30 college credits. Students can receive course credit for their professional experience, military training, and volunteer work through a portfolio process. Students in this program receive individualized attention including assistance with advising, navigating financial aid, and meeting graduation requirements. Eight-week, fully online course options have made the ADCP an effective way for working adults to complete their bachelor’s degree while saving time and money. Since ADCP students are working adults, often with families to support, managing the cost of college can be difficult. Portfolio credits cost $120. CLEP exams cost close to $100. Books can easily top $100 for just one course. These costs can become insurmountable when also faced with housing costs, kid’s school supplies, and grocery bills. Many adult students fall through the cracks for scholarships. They are either too old, have too many credits, or their GPA from their first attempt at college is not high enough. This ADCP Scholarship Fund will directly assist our adult learners by relieving the financial burden of college. Did you know? 67% of college students work; 40% of them work full time 54 % of college students are not first time students 37% of college students are 25 or older With a donation to the ADCP Scholarship Fund, you are helping working adults achieve their dreams of obtaining a college degree to better themselves and better our community. Funds will be used for ADCP students paying for portfolio credits, CLEP/DSST exams, tuition, fees, and books. For more information about our program, please visit: https://uafs.edu/adcp/index.php

Read This Program

When I was in school, I was not an avid reader. Now, I always have a book going and read all different genres. This has made me interested in bringing the joy of reading to others. As part of this interest, I have joined the Read This program at UAFS and am an ambassador for this year's Day of Giving. The Read This program has brought several guest speakers to the campus in conjunction with reading one of their books. These books often touch on a social topic such as autism, Holocaust survivors, and murder of indigenous peoples for their oil rights. We have had Eva Kor, Amy Tan, Temple Grandin, and, just this year, David Grann. These speakers help to bring the topic to life and to provide insight into their methods to help future writers. These programs are not only open to students, faculty, and staff of the university, but also to the community. To have a program like this and to bring in speakers takes money. Speakers can charge anywhere from $15,000 and up. Please help this program by donating to our program. This year’s Day of Giving will take place on Thursday, April 28 (our beloved mascot Numa’s birthday). Our Day of Giving is an opportunity for projects and departments on campus to create unique experiences for our students that couldn’t happen without the support of our alumni and friends.

Read This Program

Read This is such an awesome program! I have gotten to meet so many amazing authors and hear them talk about their craft, hear their stories first-hand, and see how the community gets involved with their stories, not to mention my students. Please help us bring even more wonderful people here to talk to the community! Read This is a community-wide literacy program that aims to select thoughtful books and provide programming about diverse communities around us and bring to light important social issues that foster discussion and mutual understanding. About our Project The Read This program is a multidisciplinary literacy program, which originated in the English Department and has extended throughout UAFS and the community. We provide programming relevant to the selected book. Read This is a great way to bring our students together with the community while also covering important social issues to help us all be more culturally aware. Such lessons and interactions can help make our university and community better citizens and human beings. Funds will be used to invite off-campus guest speakers or towards the expenses associated with author visits; prizes for writing/art contests or other projects or activities; printing and advertising costs, and many more possibilities. Our Books & Authors Testimonials "Bringing a community together to discuss a book/topic creates opportunities for new and different ideas and perspectives to be discovered and discussed." ― Rene Wilson Myers, Scott-Sebastian Regional Library "What draws me most to the Read This Program is the tremendous respect I have for all the research that goes into creating a book like Killers of the Flower Moon. Not only do we gain knowledge from reading the book, but we also get to participate in many fun and interesting events. I have learned many fascinating facts about my hometown Fort Smith through the book launch. Book club is a great place to not just learn about the book but for fellowship and friendship. I highly recommend getting involved in Read This!" ― Joshua Hawk Hays, Computer Graphic Technology-Architectural Follow us on Social!

Hello! Kalena Her is my name. I am a sophomore at UAFS. I am a first-generation college student majoring in Workforce Leadership. At Lincoln Childcare Center, we are contributing 300 hours to the 3-4-year-olds' classroom, where we are assisting children with social-emotional skills, reading, and language. At the end of the year, I'll receive a $1,342 scholarship to help me continue my study. JumpStart aims is to help early children in underprivileged communities achieve equal learning outcomes. We're seeking to raise funds for those who will be serving with JumpStart next school year! Those who can donate for the matching scholarships would be much appreciated. Jumpstart Scholarship

Hello everyone, I am Kaitlyn Corsiglia! I am a Sophomore majoring in elementary education. I serve at Lincoln Childcare Center in the four year old classroom, and after I serve 300 hours, I will receive a $1342 scholarship. I chose to serve in Jumpstart to help me interact with children and be in a classroom setting. I would appreciate any size donation that would assist me in receiving a matching scholarship from UAFS! Your gift will provide matching scholarships to our Jumpstart national service members who dedicate their time to serving those most in need in our community, our children! About our Project Jumpstart Arkansas is our AmeriCorps national service program on campus. Our members are college students who serve under-resourced children in local preschools. Members commit to serve 300 hours during a school year to help the children they serve increase their language, literacy, and social-emotional skills while forming trusting relationships with caring adults. Jumpstart is working toward the day when every child enters kindergarten ready to succeed! Our members are a diverse group of college students from a variety of majors who are dedicated to bettering our community through early childhood education. Members serve an average of 10-15 hours per week during the school year without receiving an hourly wage. In addition to their service, several members work multiple jobs while taking a full-time course load. Most also plan to pursue careers in service sectors. Upon completion of 300 hours of service, members receive a $1,342 scholarship from AmeriCorps. We would like to match that amount on our campus for as many members as possible. Let's demonstrate that service is valued on our campus and in our community by assisting these individuals with finishing college with less of a financial burden. Not only will the project assist this group of students, but the matching scholarships will allow UAFS to become recognized nationally as an AmeriCorps School of National Service, potentially bringing more service-minded students to our campus. "Through the AmeriCorps Jumpstart Grant, students who complete 300 hours of service are eligible for a $1,342 Segal Educational Award. We are proud of this opportunity that can be provided to students. However, the chance to increase this award for members who struggle financially yet still choose to serve their community through working with our youngest learners thrills me. Students serving their communities while attending the university deserve the highest assistance we can provide. This project would allow students to be retained at the university and complete a bachelor’s degree without a heavy financial burden upon graduation. Join us in making college more affordable for our national service members!” -Dr. Monica Riley, Executive Director of the School of Education and Jumpstart Campus Champion Did you know? Awarded over $33,000 in Segal Educational Awards from AmeriCorps since 2020 25 members have successfully completed their full 300 hour term of service since 2020 Our members major in education, dental hygiene, nursing, criminal justice, social work, and international business. Help support UAFS's new eSports program! The UAFS Digital Lions eSports Program is a budding initiative in student retention, built around the promising development of esports teams across colleges and universities. Funding this project not only aids student retention and recruitment, but it helps to support a program that benefits students involved in a multitude of ways: fostering teamwork, building interpersonal and group communication, time management, organization, and problem-solving skills, as well as physical and mental benefits such as enhancing hand-eye coordination, attention spans, and visual processing. About our Program We are an inclusive organization that strives to offer a fun community for gamers who range from casual to competitive. We focus on games available for competitive eSports based on the demands and requests from students such as League of Legends, Valorant, Smash Bros, and Pokemon. We are always looking for new and interested students to show their skills and express their interest. Thus, if we don’t play a game you may be competitive in let us know and get involved so we can look into adding you and your team to the program! Funds will be used in several ways, first and foremost to purchase personalized uniforms for students who make one of the four planned eSports teams within the program. Beyond that, we will use funds to supplement equipment needs, pay for tournament registration and travel, and supplies for our eSports lab. eSports are a billion-dollar competitive video gaming industry, with tournaments/matches that take place on the local, national, and global scale. Public and private universities across the country have recognized the potential of this new collegiate sport and UAFS intends to be the first in our area. Additional funding will help us grow and support the program so that we are able to offer better scholarships and support for the students on our teams. We also have additional recruiting and retention power with the program, as we have already piqued the interest of local college-bound high school students involved with their respective school eSports teams. Stay Connected eSports! For more information, email UAFSeSports@uafs.edu
