Kirsten Donnolly, our sister and our friend, transitioned this year. She fought a brave fight and was surrounded by supportive family and friends throughout her cancer battle. We recognize that not all cancer patients are as blessed as Kirsten. We are raising these funds to provide much needed support services to those other women for whom this support is vital. My mom has benefited from many of the free services WCRC provides, especially the weekly support group for women with metastatic breast cancer. Being in a support group like this has helped my mom to not feel alone in her situation. The women in her group always provide new ideas on how to help manage symptoms, advocate for oneself and keep one’s emotional well being prioritized. I am starting with a goal of raising $1,000 but ideally pushing to raise more than I did last year, which was $3,411. Every gift no matter the size is greatly appreciated and means so much to my mom and me. Dear Friends, Yes, it's time again for WCRC's Swim A Mile/Move Mile. How could this be? Why so soon? You may be asking why Swim A Mile is happening in April and not in our usual October timeframe. Well, there is a very good reason. To protect the health of our swimmers, volunteers, and staff from increasingly common wildfire smoke during the fall, we have moved this critically important fundraiser to April 30 and May 1.Every year I swim to honor or remember the many people in my life who are living with cancer or who have passed from this disease. First among them was my mother, whose birthday is May 1st.
