In 1987, I took up running as a part of my exercise regime after a warning from my doctor about my sedentary lifestyle. I met my good friend Carl Humphries who became my Running Guru. We started running 5 miles at 5am every day. Together we entered the lottery for Boston’s 100th marathon. We were both selected and that was the beginning of my marathon addiction. We ran the Boston, Cape Cod, Marine Corps, and New York City marathons. We ran a lot of local races, always anxious to collect the goodies and hitting the beer tent afterward. We ran for fun. I continued running marathons even after Carl stopped and have run the Bay State, Chicago, New Jersey, Disney, Philadelphia, Maine, and Rhode Island marathons. I joined Shamrock Running Club and started running in bigger groups and now my running schedule is more organized. I learn something new during every run. I'm a blessed person.

In 2020 I am running the Boston Marathon again, this time in support of a local program: Call2Talk. Running has put me in contact with some great individuals, including some who volunteer their time to answer calls at Call2Talk from people who are distraught, anxious, sad, and lonely. Call2Talk is a mental health, emotional support, and suicide prevention program based in Framingham. It offers suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention services to anyone in need across Massachusetts, 24/7. In 2019 Call2Talk received 68,425 calls. My fundraising efforts will help Call2Talk continue to provide hope and comfort to all callers.
