    About Hammers & Heels

The Hammers & Heels groups in Pinellas and West Pasco counties mission is to empower women to help families build strength, stability and independence. We at Habitat for Humanity have the ability to provide opportunities for hands-on learning, and given these tools, women can succeed in changing their communities.

Meet the 2021 Women's Build homeowners!

Pinellas County - THE DAILEY FAMILY

Sandra, a Medical Assistant and Advocate for Clearwater Free Clinic, is working towards her forever home with Habitat. She is a mother of two, Robert and Stacey, and a grandmother of five children who are so excited to cheer her on through the program.

Although Sandra has not had a terrible living situation over the years, she continues to struggle with the rising rent costs every year. “It is getting so much harder to pay for necessary things when costs keep going up.” When she was accepted into the Habitat program, where she will receive  0% interest mortgage, she felt nothing but excitement. “I didn’t think it could happen. I finally have a place to call HOME.” She has enjoyed learning all of the necessary tools to become a homeowner, and completing her sweat equity hours.

Sandra is overwhelmed with excitement and is looking forward to her dedication ceremony. “Everything works out in the end. My house will be full of love, happiness, and wonderful memories.”

D’Antony, a Parts Driver for Lokey Nissan and Volkswagen, and Kahini, a Nursing Assistant for Regional Medical Center, are working towards their dream of homeownership. The couple grew up together, and plan to get married now that Kahini has finished Nursing School, and will start working as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit. “Friendship is the substance of our relationship,” says the couple.

The couple is very career-driven, but due to the many school expenses that Nursing school brings, Kahini’s finances have significantly decreased over the past year. “I worked overtime after graduating from UCF to build savings that I could rely on through Nursing School. D’Antony took on a lot of my finances, as well as his own, while I was in school. We agreed that once I graduated we would switch focus to D’Antonys growth in his professional career.” They have been living in between their parent’s homes, leaving it difficult to spend quality time together. “It has been extremely challenging to balance school, work, our relationship and mental health during this time. We understand that it is a short setback for an even greater comeback, and we are so excited for this next journey together.”

The couple was so excited to be accepted into the Habitat program! “It was a moment we will remember forever. We thanked God and thought about how blessed we are to have this opportunity.” The couple is now working through sweat equity hours and financial education classes. “We could not imagine stepping into a new direction of life without all of this information, we have really learned so much!”
