Summer is the most difficult time of the year for Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and the children that they help to feed. With school no longer in session and over 265,000 area children currently receiving a free or reduced lunch during the school day, many children will not receive the once guaranteed two meals a day. Did you know over 75,000 children in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system alone benefit from this lunch program and more than 500,000 people in our area are living at or below the poverty level? The need is great!
The 9 Food Drive, benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, comes at an especially critical time as area emergency pantries served by Second Harvest report increases in requests for assistance and giving is at a low point for the year. We hope you'll join our effort to fight hunger and donate today online here or drop off non-perishable canned goods to any Showmars, Ashley HomeStore, and ER Plumbing Services from April 29 - June 9. When families are struggling to put food on their tables, pets are often forgotten, so please consider dropping of any unopened pet food, dry or canned.
WSOC-TV will also be accepting your donations Wednesday, June 5 from 10am-7pm at our studios located at 1901 N. Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28206.
Thank you for supporting Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and your neighbors in need!
