Please share how you have been personally touched by cardiovascular disease and/or why you decided to dance in this year's event.

When I was 11 weeks pregnant with our third child, we found out that our daughter had Turners Syndrome. Turners Syndrome is 45X chromosomes instead of 46X chromosomes and only affects girls. The odds of survival are dismal as most babies have a 98% chance that they will self-abort in utero. We went into weekly appointments to see if our baby's heart had stopped because this is what I was prepared for. It was a miserable pregnancy but we chose to wait and let God be in control.

Today, our 11 year old daughter Rebecca is alive and well! Rebecca had open heart surgery at just 5 days old. Following Rebecca's big surgery, about 3 months later,  Dr. Blurton and Dr. Tan did a cardiac catheterization at Long Beach Medical Center, and currently Rebecca still has a Bi-cuspid Valve which is closely monitored every six months.  I am so grateful for the exceptional care Dr. Blurton, Dr. Tan and their teams have provided us as they are a huge reason why Rebecca continues to thrive.

It is a true blessing to share Rebecca's survival story and dance in support of the Heart & Vascular Institute in her honor.  Thank you for your support!

About the Event

MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center Foundation’s annual gala - Dancing for Our Stars (DFOS) - has become one of the hottest philanthropic events in Long Beach.

The 2020 DFOS “The Beat Goes On” Gala is rescheduled to take place on September 11, 2020 at Hyatt Regency Long Beach and will benefit MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute. The event will feature dancers from the community who either have been personally touched by heart disease or wish to support leading-edge heart and vascular care in our community.  Each dancer will partner with a professional dancer or significant other to choreograph and perform an original dance to an upbeat, popular song from their favorite era.  Attendees will have an opportunity to support their favorite dancer(s) by “voting with their dollars” before and during the event as dancers vie for the coveted DFOS Champion Crystal Award.

Tickets are on sale now and sponsorship/underwriting/program advertising opportunities are also available. We look forward to celebrating this fun and memorable evening with you!
