Improving Care for Our Community
Heart disease is the leading cause of death among all Americans, affecting people of all ages and backgrounds. An American dies every 36 seconds from cardiovascular disease. The time it takes to deliver care is often a life-and-death factor in determining the outcomes of cardiac-related events.
At Keck Medicine of USC, offering our patients comprehensive cardiac care has always been a priority via our USC Cardiac and Vascular Institute, which provides world-class tertiary and quaternary care. Led by an exceptional team of cardiologists and surgeons, the USC Cardiac and Vascular Institute conducts more cardiac procedures than any other single program in Southern California.
As a part of the Keck Medicine of USC Cardiac and Vascular Institute, the new Interventional Radiology/Cardiac Cath Lab (IR/Cardiac Cath Lab) at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital (USC VHH) will enhance our ability to provide the highest-level of care in a community hospital setting.
This new IR/Cardiac Cath Lab at USC VHH will be able to conduct diagnostic and preventive cardiovascular care, such as angioplasty, arterial stenting, electrophysiology and pacemaker implantation. An IR/Cardiac Cath lab will enable cardiovascular conditions, such as stroke, coronary artery disease and peripheral artery disease, to be treated on-site.
Another remarkable capability of an IR/Cardiac Cath Lab is interventional
radiology, a subspecialty of radiology, used to diagnose and treat disease through the use of minimally invasive, image-guided procedures. This often eliminates the need for more complicated surgeries and lengthy recoveries. In addition to treating heart and vascular disease, interventional radiology is used to diagnose and treat cancer, neurological and spinal disorders, and an array of women’s and men’s health conditions.
Your support will enable us to treat high-acuity cardiovascular patients in the Foothill communities and beyond. It will allow USC VHH, part of the Keck Medicine of USC health system, to establish a full-service team of community-based and Keck physicians working together to bring world-class care close to home. Within three years, the IR/Cardiac Cath Lab will be able to provide immediate, lifesaving diagnoses and treatments to over 700 people a year.
