That's our motto at Harmony Project. Harmony Project offers a unique mentoring program that uses the power of music to transform low expectations into bright futures for kids in low-income neighborhoods. Our programs are dedicated to consistently enable kids from low-income communities to graduate high school, attend college and distinguish themselves at a high level.
Harmony Project is offered tuition-free based on family income. Students participate intensively in joyful music classes and rehearsals 5 to 10 hours per week or more - and we stick with them throughout their entire childhood. We've found that by teaching children to play increasingly challenging music over multiple years, students are instilled with a sense of discipline, care, empathy and support from our students and faculty. Our peer mentors become extraordinary role models, building a positive culture of social support that helps our students become disciplined, confident, caring and compassionate young adults.
Research conducted by Northwestern University shows that learning music significantly boosts brain function and literacy. Despite 50% dropout rates in the neighborhoods where they live, more than 90% of our high school seniors graduate and go on to many of the finest colleges and universities in our nation. Our students distinguish themselves as Fulbright and Gates Scholars, and many earn advanced degrees. Most are the first in their families to attend college.
While thousands of students currently participate in Harmony Project programs across multiple states, hundreds more fill waiting lists and remain under-served. It is our goal this holiday season to raise $100,000 to drastically impact the number of children able to have access to our after school music programs. After all, all of our students are supported through generous contributions from people like you.
This holiday season help us enable ALL our kids learn to express themselves with dignity and grace and to reach their greatest potential. Please, Give Harmony.
