Bring American Indian Histories collection to ISU

We need your help to purchase a digital collection of American Indian Histories and Cultures for ISU. This collection of Native American documents will strengthen our holdings in this area and support the work of ISU’s students and faculty. Native American studies is an important element in the ISU curriculum and this collection will become a showcase for the ISU Library. It facilitates the conduct of in-depth research and teaching and supports the work of the history and anthropology departments, as well as the Idaho Museum of Natural History.

Double Your Gift

Access to the collection will cost $20,000. However, the library is excited to announce that we are able to match your gift - dollar for dollar. Please make a gift today, and help us bring this wonderful collection to ISU.

Here’s what ISU’s history department has to say about this collection:

“It contains many documents that I can use not only for my own research, but also for use by my students, particularly in my Early North America course. The manuscript and print sources are wonderful, and the early maps add a great dimension often missing from these sorts of digitized collections. The site is easy to navigate, documents are downloadable, and provides an excellent user experience”

—Paul Sivitz, Ph.D.

“Primary sources are the meat of historical analysis, and access to this database will enrich student learning in a range of classes such as North American West, Native American History, Idaho History, Federal Indian Relations, Latin America, and courses on various periods in U.S. history”

—Kevin Marsh, Ph.D.

“The database facilitates classroom research projects because it houses the materials in one, easy to use location while allowing them to really grasp and appreciate the importance of primary source interpretation in a research paper, thereby equipping them to tackle future research projects in academia or the workforce"

—Kathleen Kole de Peralta, Ph.D.
