    The Latest Surgical Tools Improve Outcomes and Attract Surgical Talent

    USC Verdugo Hills Hospital (USC VHH) is rapidly growing its traditional and robotic surgical capacity in the areas of orthopedics, urology, gynecology, plastics, and general surgery. New surgical and robotic technologies provide better outcomes and faster recovery time for our patients and help to recruit surgeons who are leaders in their various specialties. With the latest in technology and the best and brightest physicians conducting surgery at our hospital, USC VHH can provide access to the most advanced, state-of-the-art surgical procedures right here in our own community. Some examples of this cutting-edge surgical equipment* include:

    • The da Vinci Surgical System which facilitates surgery using a minimally invasive approach and extends the capabilities of a surgeon’s eyes and hands.
    • A C-arm which is an imaging-scanning intensifier that provides high resolution x-ray images in real-time during surgical, orthopedic and emergency care procedures and allows doctors to monitor progress and make immediate corrections.

    State-of-the Art Medical Equipment Improves Diagnostic Capabilities and Enhances Patient Experience

    Technological advances in medical equipment can result in faster and more accurate diagnoses, increased patient comfort and family peace of mind. Some examples of this innovational equipment* include:

    • Gurneys with built-in scales that allow stroke patients presenting in the Emergency Department to be treated with weight-based, clot-busting medication without being moved to be weighed;
    • NICVIEW cameras that provide access to families of babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to have “eyes” on their little ones 24 hours a day; 
    • 3D Tomosynthesis is cutting edge mammography technology which allows radiologists to see cross sections of breast tissue in 1 mm segments – detecting cancers that are often missed with traditional 2D mammography. 
    • A Giraffe Shuttle is transport unit used to provide seamless movement of neonates from Labor and Delivery to the NICU as well as to other parts of the hospital when necessary for scheduled procedures or diagnostic studies. This piece of equipment is critical in eliminating the need for manual transfer and allows uninterrupted thermal regulation of babies to be maintained, reducing the potential for clinical problems associated with patient touch, handling and movement.
