USC VHH Patient Experience

Patients at the Heart of All that We Do

USC Verdugo Hills Hospital (USC VHH) seeks to ensure consistent delivery of patient and family centered care that provides positive emotional, spiritual, intellectual and physical experiences for our patients. Our Patient Experience Program Manager is a dedicated member of hospital staff that cultivates a culture of patient and family advocacy by empowering patients and families to take an active role in their patient experience. This important role advocates on behalf of patients, influences expected service behaviors with staff and physicians, and develops and disseminates education and policies that are patient and family centered.

In addition to the Patient Experience Department, our Patient and Family Social Services Department is staffed with case managers assigned to each patient care area. These case managers are trained to help patients and family members navigate challenges related to illness or hospitalization and the subsequent issues that often arise upon discharge including social work referrals and community/outpatient resources.

Programs that Enhance the Patient Experience

Along with these staff resources, there are a wide variety of programs and services offered at USC VHH designed to strengthening the patient experience. USC VHH provides pastoral care and spiritual guidance to patients and their families through our Chaplain Services Program. The hospital’s No One Dies Alone (NODA) program is a volunteer-based patient experience program that offers companionship and support to patients who have no family or close friends to sit with them at the end of life.  Our Healing Arts for Patients Program includes a mobile art cart that provides patients with a framed print of their choice from the hospital’s Healing Arts Exhibit Archive to be displayed bedside and which is theirs to take home upon discharge. Additionally patients have access, via iPad, to artist-narrated digital art exhibits.  Comfort Care Items such as toiletries, blankets, robes, activity kits and other small niceties are also provided to make patients and their families more comfortable.

    Make an Impact

Patients are at the heart of everything we do at USC VHH. Philanthropic partnership will help ensure that the culture of service and patient advocacy that is such an essential part of our mission will be supported and enhanced now and in perpetuity.
