31st Annual Stand by Me Fundraising Walk
It's time to provide real support for real caregivers.
Join Alzheimer's and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana for the 31st annual Stand by Me Fundraising Walk. On Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., the 1.5-mile route will start and end at Howard Park in South Bend and we will walk through downtown South Bend's local business district. All attendees will also be able to enjoy entertainment and take part in a raffle.
Your support provides local caregivers with the free resources they need to support their loved one's journey with Alzheimer's and dementia.
How Your Donation Helps Local Families
$35 - An hour of help-line assistance
$100 - Individualized counseling session for a family in crisis
$130 - A one-day break from caregiving to help maintain health and well-being of the family
$200 - Local education and support group sessions
$1,500 - A local caregiver education series
United States Statistics
- Every 66 seconds, someone in the United States develops the disease. One in eight people over 65, and one in two over 85 will develop a form of dementia.
- Currently, over 5.4 million people in the U.S. suffer from some form of dementia, a number projected to triple by 2030.
- Nearly 60% of Alzheimer's and dementia caregivers rate the emotional stress of caregiving as high or very high and about 40% suffer from depression. Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers had 9.7 billion in additional health care costs of their own.
- In 2017, Alzheimer's and other dementias cost the nation an estimated $259 billion. In 2016, caregivers provided an estimated 18.2 billion hours of unpaid care valued at over $230 billion dollars.
