The Heart of Southern Coast
Open Your Heart donations are the very foundation of our ability to simultaneously continue our work at the forefront of scientific discovery and benefit community health. With your support we can ensure that all Americans have an equal chance of living a healthier, longer life – no matter their ethnicity, income, education level or neighborhood. And we can continue funding cutting edge heart and stroke research that provides new knowledge and advances that benefit millions of lives.
This year we are we are particularly focused on:
Becoming A Lifesaver: The American Heart Association is the nation’s leader in resuscitation science, education, and training. Cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death. When a person has a cardiac arrest, survival depends on immediately receiving CPR from someone nearby. Unfortunately, 90 percent of people who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests don’t survive. CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival.
Georgia now requires CPR training as a graduation requirement for all students which will add thousands of lifesavers to the Southern Coast community. Unfortunately, not all schools have the necessary equipment to provide effective trainings. Your support of the Southern Coast American Heart Association will help place CPR kits in local high schools, help increase awareness of heart diseases and stroke and allow the AHA to further its mission to be a relentless force for longer, healthier lives. Through the Southern Coast Heart Ball Open Your Heart Campaign a portion of donations received will help place CPR kits in our 11 Chatham County high schools.
