Dear Alumni and Friends:
Annual giving has often been described as the life blood of an institution. The Savannah State University Band Program would not have survived for over one hundred years without the support of alumni and friends like you. Contributions from alumni and friends provide the University Band Program with the necessary resources to remain true to its ability to retain, recruit, and support our overall mission of “performing with excellence”. Private donations provide scholarships for deserving students, curriculum enhancements, and the means to support our marching, symphonic, and jazz bands. In short, annual giving impacts the overall quality of operating the band program. I will share just a few of our many successes in recent months:
- Ability to attract talented students
- Ability to build and grow the band program
- Ability to positively promote and advertise the university at-large
- Ability to increase overall awareness of the university and its overall growth
I know that there are many compelling needs that deserve your support, but I hope you will agree that a strong instrumental music program is vital to the overall culture and environment of a Historically Black College and University. A large percentage of the students who will return to the band program or begin their studies this coming fall will arrive with significant unmet financial needs. Over the past year, we have greatly decreased the number of students as a result.
With each new class of students, Savannah State University renews its commitment to the ideal of a high-quality affordable education. We hope that you will make a commitment as well by donating to The Savannah State University Band Program. I thank you for your consideration of this request.
