In the devastating wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) thoughtfully created the UVI Rise Relief Fund in order to assist students, faculty and staff, impacted by the storms.
Armed with donations from corporations, small businesses and individual community members, the Fund was able to provide over $290K in support to assist students, faculty, and staff who are experiencing dire living conditions.
Fortunately, the UVI Rise Fund still exists, as our students and staff reach out for emergency care once again in light of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic that continues to leave both the territory and the nation experiencing challenges and overwhelming hurdles, as we adjust our lifestyles and daily routines.
The needs of our campus community are expansive and diverse, but we provide the requests received in the following priorities:
Funding to support housing accommodations which resulted from required changes in our campus housing offerings.
- Resources to secure laptop computers or Chromebooks for students to stay connected to our online learning environment.
Supplementary income to assist with the loss of employment due to the impact of the pandemic on our business community.
The UVI Rise Fund was developed to assist our students and ensure they have the necessary tools to successfully complete the academic year. We invite you to help support the Fund once again so that we can meet the needs of those who most require our help.
Feel free to contact the UVI Development Office at (340) 693-1040 if you want to learn more about the UVI Rise Fund our progress managing with the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
