Community Living provides supports and services to empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live their lives to the fullest.

Community Living employs almost 300 staff members, the majority of whom are direct care staff. These hard-working men and women oftentimes have more than one job and at least one child to care for. About 10% of our staff are single mothers who earn less than the United Way's Household Survival Budget for Frederick County. As a nonprofit with limited funds, we cannot raise the wages of every employee we have. However, we would like to do whatever we can to assist our staff in becoming as financially secure as possible.

We are striving to take some of the financial burden off of our amazing employees by creating a child care relief fund for staff who fall below this line and have children. Through this program, 10 employees would be chosen each year to receive a $1,000 scholarship paid directly to their licensed child care provider. This would alleviate a great deal of the financial burden some of our employees face, as well as serving as an incentive for them to stay employed by Community Living.
This year, we are raising funds for this program through the Unity Campaign. Though we would love to be able to, organizations like CLI cannot afford to pay staff much more. But, with help from our community, we can relieve some of the burden for those whose lives revolve around helping others.

About the Unity Campaign

The Unity Campaign is an effort between nonprofits, businesses, sponsors, and individuals to benefit the health, education, and financial stability of those Frederick County households struggling to afford basic necessities. Last year, the Unity Campaign moved to United Way of Frederick County and raised $447,074 for 27 local nonprofit organizations.
