The positive impact of a trip like this is incredible on so many levels. For us to be the first female sport to make a foreign trip is amazing. To be the first team from our university to make a trip of this magnitude is an honor. We would like to thank you in advance for the financial support you will provide by making donations to support the volleyball program efforts. As you know, Aggies don’t just talk, “Aggies Do!”
From a player’s perspective, this is a once in a lifetime trip. It’s a chance to visit a new continent and culture. To see historic sights that are older than our own country. It’s hard to wrap your head around it. When they see the enormity and beauty of these structures and realize they were built before a time of power tools or large cranes. They were built by the will of people with precision that’s survived time.
From a program’s perspective, there is a positive impact on recruiting. To be able to tell recruits and their parents that the school really believes in the volleyball program. They support going above and beyond so the players can have this type of incredible experience.
From a university perspective, we would be one of a few schools in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference to send a team on this type of trip. It sends a message to our student athletes and prospective student athletes that we value providing cultural tours that magnify the overall student-athlete experience. That is a great statement to make. Paraphrasing Chancellor Martin’s preeminence 2020 statement, how can we prepare students for the dynamic, global world we live in if we don’t offer global experiences to our students.
Below is a quote from sophomore, Edie Brewer
“This is a once in a lifetime experience. When you travel like this, the memories you create with your teammates you create memories that last a lifetime. Getting to watch a professional match and play against professional clubs will be amazing. I believe it will inspire us to aim higher and maybe look to play abroad after college. As a history major, I’m so excited to see all these historic churches, buildings and monuments. Wanting to be a foreign diplomat after graduating, I enjoy learning about foreign cultures and getting to immerse myself in it…even if it’s just for 8 days"
