Support the Jacki Headley University Art Gallery

The Jacki Headley University Art Gallery invites curiosity and collaborative learning through active engagement with contemporary art ideas, artworks and exhibitions. The gallery broadly focuses on exhibiting exemplary work by artists living today who are working in varying media, content, and subject. Presenting three to five exhibitions each year, the gallery also hosts the annual juried student exhibition, now in its 63rd year, and the MFA culminating exhibitions. With over 3,000 annual visitors, the mission of the Jacki Headley University Art Gallery is to engage and inspire the intellectual and creative life of Chico State and the diverse audiences of Chico and the North State.

Every Dollar Counts

$25 will help the gallery purchase necessary exhibition materials such as painting supplies, hardware, and printing materials.

$100 will fund a student gallery attendant for a week. Our student workers gain valuable experience working with exhibiting artists, learning how to handle and install artwork, and interacting with the public as gallery docents.

$500 will fund an honorarium for a visiting artist. Public lectures, class visits, and artist-led workshops provide important opportunities for students to learn first-hand from working artists.

$1,000 to $1,500 will make YOU an exhibition sponsor!  Support the gallery’s ongoing mission to bring cutting-edge contemporary art to the North State.

About the Gallery

The Jacki Headley University Art Gallery is a forum for exploring art and ideas and a laboratory for contemporary art practices. Through innovative exhibitions and programs, the gallery engages and inspires the intellectual and creative life of the University community as well as the diverse audiences of Chico and the North State. The gallery hosts four to five exhibitions each year, as well as the annual juried student exhibition and the MFA culminating exhibitions. Broadly focused on exhibiting exemplary work by artists living today, the gallery presents artwork of varying media, content and subject, and supports the work of emerging or under-recognized artists, local, national and international. Alongside the contemporary arts, the gallery program also includes historical exhibitions of art and culture.

Jacki Headley embodied the essence of what it is to be creative. Her life illustrated what it means to develop and give one’s talent for the betterment of society. She began her career as a teenager designing and making dresses, and went on to found Woof & Poof, a successful business in partnership with her husband Graham that grew over 35 years. In 1982, Jacki and Graham opened “Made in Chico.” Jacki was deeply committed to the Chico community and became involved in multiple organizations and causes, believing in the importance of improving the quality of life in her community. She received her BA in art at Chico State in 1973, and a teaching credential the following year. In 2008 she received the Distinguished Alumna award for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. After Jacki passed away Graham wished to inspire others and continue Jacki’s vision, sense, of innovation, and her creative expression at Chico State and decided to establish her legacy on campus by naming the Jacki Headley University Art Gallery.

The Jacki Headley University Art Gallery is located in the new Arts & Humanities Building on the Chico State campus. Find us on the 1st floor, adjacent to the Turner Print Museum and the MFA Gallery. Open Monday–Friday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. and Saturday, noon–4 p.m.
