Support the STAR Center Professional Attire Fund!
The STAR center is raising money for professional attire for students from historically underserved backgrounds.
Support our cohorts:
The STAR Center provides a place for academic preparation and support for historically underserved students at CSU, Chico.
Our two flagship academic retention programs are Men of Chico and Women of Excellence. These programs aim to empower, guide, and support students of color in order to ensure persistence, retention, academic excellence, and post-baccalaureate trajectories for students of color at CSU, Chico.
Men of Chico and Women of Excellence provide an equitable pathway to recruit, retain, and graduate a diverse student body by emphasizing a sense of belonging through social engagement. Through these programs, students participate in one semester of open programming developed to expand their socio-emotional intelligence and extend their comfort zones in places and spaces where they may have previously felt unwelcome. This is followed by a semester in which students follow a cohort model to examine theoretical and practical approaches of leadership from the lens of men and women of color.
This experience provides them with a vision of the future they are working towards. An integral part of facilitating the transition from student to professional is affirming a career-focused identity. Students participate in workshops on professional attire, résumé building, and interview preparation before attending a CSU, Chico career fair.
In order to prepare these students for career success, we want to provide our students with professional attire. Our goal is to cover this cost for every student in this year’s two cohorts.
Upon cohort completion, these students serve as mentors within the program and their respective communities. Furthermore, they continue to exude an expectation of excellence amongst their peers.
