Holiday Helping Hand, a partnership between United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region and the Poughkeepsie Journal, has helped thousands of people in our Dutchess County community. 100% of donations go directly to organizations and individuals in need.
Holiday Helping Hand is designed to provide a small amount of assistance to Dutchess County individuals and families who might otherwise have little or nothing for the holidays. Funds are given to local organizations to purchase gifts, food and/or parties for children or seniors, or utility grants for families in need.

Holiday Helping Hand brightens season for thousands, but funding needed by Ryan Santisevan (Nov 21, 2019)
A history of Holiday Helping Hand . . .
In 1982, United Way was collecting money for holiday dinners. By 1983, Bill Pukmel, managing editor at the Poughkeepsie Journal at the time, agreed to team up with United Way in its fundraising effort and to expand the campaign altogether. In that first year, the campaign raised more than $13,000. This past year we raised $28,679 to be used to purchase gifts, food, toys, clothing, utility assistance and more for people-in-need in our community this holiday season.
