Welcome to Team Sunny's Light!

Suzanne "Sunny" King truly lived up to her name. She was kind, loving, and caring to all. Earlier in her lifetime, she attended medical school and became a psychiatrist specializing in abuse and trauma. She spent her earlier years helping victims of all varieties, including domestic violence victims. She wanted nothing more than to help others in any way she could and bring a smile to the faces of people who needed it the most.

On September 11th, 2016 in Imperial Beach, CA- Sunny was shot in the head at point-blank range by her fiancee after she tried to end the relationship. Her murderer then turned the gun on himself and took his own life, resulting in a homicide-suicide. She left behind a 21 year old daughter, still attending college out-of-state and in the middle of nursing school.

My name is Lauren King. I am Sunny's daughter. Growing up, my mom raised me as a single disabled mother. We had no other blood relatives and the two of us only had each other. She was my best friend and my entire world. She taught me to be kind and compassionate while simultaneously being resilient and strong. Ultimately, my mother shaped me into the person I am today. She inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare so that I too, may be able to help others.

Today, I am a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). I owe everything to my mother for getting me to where I am today and helping me become the person I am. Because of funds raised by BTS and the Angel Run, I was able to attend the Angel Retreat that ultimately changed my life. Now it is time to give back to the organization that has given me everything after the most painful experience of my life. I would love nothing more than to honor her spirit with a scholarship that would help other survivors and families affected by domestic violence. Together with your support, we can do just that. Let's show the world "Sunny's Light".
