Back-to-school season can be a stressful time for teachers and other school staff as they work to get everything prepped for the upcoming school year. This is especially true this year as many teachers transition back into the classroom after a year of at home or hybrid learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Between navigating coming back into the classroom and knowing that many families are still struggling to make ends meet and may have trouble purchasing needed school supplies, there is a lot to prepare. Oftentimes teachers have to reach into their own pockets to help provide these supplies.
In response to this need, United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region is hosting our annual Back-to-School drive to help teachers and students in our community. In the past, donors like you have helped us meet the needs of hundreds of students in Dutchess and Orange Counties, and now you have the opportunity to do it once again.
There are a few ways to get involved:
To ensure supplies are available for distribution before the start of the school year, all monetary and physical donations are requested by August 20. Physical donations should be dropped off at United Way’s office (75 Market St, Poughkeepsie) or to any TEG Federal Credit Union location, to Lori Buhagiar’s Middletown Allstate office (125 Dolson Ave) or at Sue Serino’s Hyde Park office (4254 Albany Post Road).

A main component of United Way’s mission is to support education in our community, and this drive is an essential way to provide this support. Suitable educational tools are a key part of a child’s success in school, and no child should suffer academically because of their family’s financial situation. With your generosity, we can ensure that local students and teachers have the supplies they need to succeed this year!
Thank you for your support of United Way and our community.
